Well, this is new. Played GC4, did a Windows Update, launching from Steam immediately gives me this. Digging around now, but if anyone has a quick fix I'm here for it.
Would follow the troubleshooter guide see if it helps
I do know that One Drive is not user friendly and could be the reason
But, I am just a player who reads a lot not a programmer so if you can I would take this to the GC Discord and post in the sitrep thread
@gypsy2299 thanks for logging in and giving an opinion about something you can't help with. For your situational awareness, that "Support Forum" link in the actual error leads to this Support Forum in the Galactic Civilization IV Forums where presumably people with issues will get assistant from Support Team people.@snarfo67 and GalCiv 4 Support, I also received the same error today. I played yesterday with no issues. My game is installed on the default C: path with no OneDrive permissions to take into consideration. I did a file repair, and rebooted the computer with the same results.Very Respectfully, Conrad
Thanks, Taltos Khan... glad it's not just me
For the record, I did a file integrity check in Steam, did a sfc /scannow in Windows 11, rebooted, no luck. OneDrive is not the issue since I uninstalled it some time ago when the ads and backup harassment became too annoying to tolerate.
snarfo67, there was a very small update last night. When I ran the game this morning it launched without issue. Try updating your game and running it.
Support Team, my issue has cleared now.
I started having the exact same issue. Ran fine one evening. Path error message the next with no updates in between that I am aware of. Error still happening Jan 23/26 1:30pm.
I picked it up on the winter sale, and just installed the game for the first time today. Getting this same error. Ran through the usual recommended troubleshooting steps from previous similar issues, but couldn't find anything applicable to address the trouble. Any aid would be appreciated.
Thanks for the notification! Working again for me now.
This is still happening. Until today, I could fix it by rebooting - but now nothing helps.
Same problem for me. Then the game loaded yesterday and this morning. 23/26. Tonight, the same problem again.
I closed Steam, right clicked on steam in task manager to end task. Ran Steam, launched Gal Civ 4 and the game ran without any problems. I think the problem is Steam and not Gal Civ.
The problem showed up last week, and seemed to disappear until I updated Windows this morning. I am now experiencing the error - any workarounds?
From task manager select Steam and end the process. Relaunch Steam. It works for me.
Thanks - gave it a try - no joy unfortunately.
I'm having the same problem - can't run game
A fix was just pushed that hopefully will be fix this issue. Please let us know if it works for you now!
i have the same problem your path system enviroment variable does not contain windows\system32 I have tried all instructions from a number of searches. I have tried reinstalling the software I have restarted, I have tried everything. Nothing has fixed it.and the path has windows\system32 in its path entry for galactic 3
GC3 was patched at the same time as GC4 was at the end of January. You have Crusade right ?
update i got the game to run by closeing all games and steam by useing task cmd restarting computer did not work only by having steam closed now it works again it must been steam problem btw you would think by restarting computer it would restart steam
That is strange indeed! Just glad you got it fixed
