When the reviews came out, I thought, What are they complaining about? It isn't that bad. Meanwhile I haven't played the game even once. I don't count messing around with it a few times during beta. I just don't feel any compulsion to play the game.
Just wait for 1.1 and see if that changes it. Normally Stardock is doing gameplay improvements and feature adding with their games usually at this point in their lifecycle, but they had to do engine fixes first, which delayed some things.
That said, the engine is looking a lot better now then it did 1.05/1.06.
Thanks for sharing.
Eh, my bad, no reason for me to be so rude.
Wow, who would have thought that the open hostility from the Demigod forums would wind up bleeidng into the Elemental and Stardock [general] forums so readily.
Yes, check out the game when 1.1 comes out, the difference between 1.05 and 1.09 already is very huge.
Look - if you don't like the game, fine, there are even lots of threads on this very topic.
I think the hostility just comes from yet another thread that basically says "I don't happen to like this game' and seeks some sort of validation.
Personally, still loving it, but who really cares?
i hope 1.1 will have big changes didn't play the game from 1.06
Hostility? Apathy, maybe; but there's no hostility here.
I haven't played since 1.06. I had some fun with the game when it first came out but after a while you realize there are too many problems to make this game worth playing. I've been monitoring the forums and I can see most of the problems I had with the game haven't been fixed yet. I'm not sure that 1.1 will fix them either. Stardock is going to fix things eventually but at the current pace it may take a year or so. Hopefully I'm wrong though.
So if 1.1 is the real game, what was the purpose of the previous versions ?
Been playing and modding since day one and before. Each patch brings more and more stability. I haven't had a memory crash with the new patch, the game plays really well now. They keep adding more and more to it as well. Magic and Combat are being reworked. Major Mods are in production and they've got more modding tools coming up as well. I'd say everything's looking up and quite a few of us are still very enthused .
Brad averaging 103 hours at work and not getting enough sleep?
Guess we will see at 1.1. Hopefully they make it good, if not well my CiV is pretty good, just needs some AI tweaks.
Been playing the game a lot and loving, even with the CTD and memory leak issues. The best thing is that this game is actually getting better and better. I hope that eventually it can overcome the negitivy it encountered upon it's release.
I agree with the Original Poster : there was no hostility in the thread's initial post.
Apathy? Yes, in my case. I'm having much more fun with Civilization 5.
But I have an extreme faith in the Stardock team :
When 1.1 comes out, I shall go back to Elemental.
That would be because Lord Xia edited his post.
Yea, the references to the hostility where toward me.
Money came sooner.
Good question, maybe Neo can answer it for you.
Sharp point made, MOIISKA ! Who said that the upcoming version 1.1 was going to be The Real Game ? Who, then, defines "reality" ?
The purpose of the previous versions was to correct the flaws & upgrade the features of version 1.0, which was (and still is) a real game, sold in retail stores, even though it was a very imperfect game -- like the initial release-version of many games.
The difference with most games is that Stardock worked very hard -- in a very short time, and at a significant financial expense -- to make the very real version 1.0 evolve & mutate.
Version 1.1 will not be The Real Game, but a major qualitative mutation in comparison to 1.0 : the purpose of the previous versions was to prepare & test the evolutionary steps required to set-up the 1.1 mutation.
(I'm sorry if I abuse a few neo-darwinian concepts.)
I'm not trying to indulge in pseudo-smart humor. I'm seriously stating that Stardock recognized the very imperfect "reality" of its release-version 1.0, and since then (August), has been working very hard to correct & upgrade the game's reality -- a costly feat that most game producers do not want to invest in. They usually take the money and run, sometimes releasing a quick-fix patch when the game has blatant, fatal flaws.
Stardock did not take the money and run. In less than 8 weeks, its Elemental team worked very hard to evolve & mutate beyond 1.0's "reality". The purpose of the previous versions, then, was to give to its customers the occasion to actively participate in the evolutionary process -- forum posted observations & suggestions being read and taken into account ... an interactive, creative relationship that most game developers & producers do not invest in (Ubisoft comes to mind).
Would you have preferred, searro, if Stardock had jumped from version 1.0 to version 1.1 without giving the opportunity to all of its customers (not only to an elite, selected few) to participate in the multi-step evolutionary process -- developing it in corporate secrecy ?
Nice!....what kind of new tools, and when are they going to release them? [I guess after 1.1?]
I under stand your Apathy. I have been playing AOW until they come out with Ver 1.1 and then see if the game becomes fun to play.
the patches didnt bring anything new the game is more stable but add new stuff goes very slow
if 1.1 dont make me happy i will w8 for the first expansion pack
I think a lot of people quit caring when Civ5 was released. I know I did. I still have hope, but yeah, we will see when it happens.
I don't think I'm allowed to say honestly. I "may" be involved in testing some of the new stuff before it's released, but I'm not %100 sure on that, it was just "mentioned", so, we'll see what happens and if so what I'm allowed to talk about.
