Is Fences 6 only for yearly subscriptions? Or can it be bought outright?
I just saw that there was a permanent license....
Hi, yes we do offer a permanent license for that specific version (v6 etc); It’s underneath the buy button.
Since you didn’t see this and came here to ask, seeing it here now, is there a way we could have made this more apparent?
I'd suggest (if I may) using a larger, bold, perhaps italic, sans serif font in a dark red hue...or a red button (like the green one above it), with white font.
or...
I guess the question moreso being – if they saw it at all and misunderstood it, or didn't see it at all, just saw the "Subscription" stuff before even looking at the buttons and figured there was not a one-time purchase available etc.
Some folks might not know what a permanent license means even if there's a button, since we've already said "1 year subscription", etc. So larger text, buttons etc doesn't necessarily resolve the issue.
The "need permanent license?" Is very missable. I didn't see it at first when it first went up with Fences 5. It is too subtle and almost looks like the tiny terms and conditions that no one ever reads, and it is just font, so it isn't clear you are supposed to click it as a link. So even some of the people that are against subscriptions are going to miss it
Is the red button in reply #3 better than the red text?
Yes, I actually liked your graphic. The one with the red button
While you're at it, add a button for Upgrade.
I like it...as I missed the "permanent license" text.
I am not big on recurring subscriptions and would rather pay a developer a little more so they give a bigger bang for their development - just me though.
We appreciate the feedback. We have talked about this internally since subscriptions for certain products have been introduced. We will add you points to them when it is discussed again.

Thanks Zhrakkan for the clarity.
Something that hopefully doesn't catch you off guard, but a followup question on your expectations:
Our permanent licenses are meant for being a permanent license of that given current version. So, Fences 6, which was released a couple months ago. These days we do a major new version generally every 1.5-2yrs, and then try to continue support for at least a year or more after that (especially for major breaks; typically Fences versions keep working a long long long time). But yes it is a permanent license to Fences 6 and support thereafter of v6, not a "lifetime pass to every Fences update ever."
Since it sounds like you're aware of the costs and whatnot of continuing the development of software and the business itself, I'm wondering if this matches your expectation – a non-subscription license to Fences 6 – or if your impression was a full lifetime of updates.
While many folks often aren't a fan, most people do choose subscriptions and we encourage this, as Windows has been updating more frequently – as have we, with new abilities for Fences – so it helps keep folks on the latest version. But of course we also offer the permanent license for folks who don't want this.
Thanks for your thoughts.
