When I play a map for 3 players, 2 of them AIs, each against each other, I can't tell if the two AIs have formed an alliance during the course of the game. The diplomacy menu always shows me the same thing, as both AIs are only marked as opponents. Or is there something I can use to recognize this?
In the last game (map TRIAD) I experienced this: both AIs attacked me at the same time, no AI against AI actions, and no indication of an alliance in the diplomacy menu.
Next time you see this mind sending over a save file or replay? It sounds currently as though they weren't allied, but are mostly targeting you.
i see, but the setting of the map was "no alliance" or better "each against each other", so I was surprised that both came together and did not attack each other, so that looked like alliance.
Problem defined:
If I watch a replay as an OPPONENT, then I can see that "Cease Fire" is activated with the other opponent. So the problem is that even in my (player´s) diplomacy menu I can't see that the two opponents have agreed to "Cease Fire". I don't think that's good!
I would add more on the topic, in many games vs AI I played it seems like the default behaviour: the AI would never accept your alliance or even cease fire proposal, but they very often ally themselves against you. This doesn't look good especially when different races which shouldn't be friends by the lore ally themselves. And then they spam one of your planets all together with 2 or 3 fully upgraded fleets. That means even just hard difficulty may be very difficult to parry, when each AI on their own is pretty weak
I have convinced Hard AI to ally with me for the specified time limits, but only by offering them absurdly high amounts of credits and resources and the occasional planet. Having played Sins one for..a decade, I took the time to figure out the new game has a similar but semi functional at best system. After you bribe your partner, you can get him to guard or attack planets to some extent, but i found the amount required to onboard an AI to be too staggering for diplomacy to be practical or fun in the early to mid game. I have also noted that it was impossible to score late game allies with Hard+ AI players, likely because player faction points from the old Sins are baked in but inaccessible to human players to improve via missions or research.
Sins1 Diplomacy is vastly superior in functionality. I am disappointed that this is not a base part of Sins2.
It is worth noting that you can give any player faction resources, credits, and even planets, however. This is somewhat handy when your AI enemies are duking it out and you would prefer them to have a prolonged campaign against each other while you navigate the match unmolested.
