The best way I can describe this never-ending problem is to speculate that Start 11 reaches a maximum number of changes/additions/revisions to the UI before it starts to forget, go back, fritz out, etc.
I get it all set up to go, then make that one next change and the UI goes nuts. I get double icons, icons that lose their group identity, and any number of variations of the same buggy behavior. Saving each iteration my set-up as a backup file, then restoring, is hit and miss accurate.
Prior to this and related or not; dragging and dropping icons from one group (or even the main page) becomes a game of CHASE! I move the icon to where I want it to insert itself and the icons run away/shift out of the way/avoid getting "caught" and showing the upper right "+"sign. It's infuriating.
Ideas?
Kevin
I should add that I have uninstalled, wiped the registry of "Stardock" then re-installed to no avail.
I suppose, technically, there is a group name. It is, simply "." The requirement is therefore, met?
That may not be sufficient. Please try an actual name to test my theory.
Will do.
I believe the error is all mine. I've been using the program incorrectly and it's almost worked.
It was and remains my intent for all the menus to be icon driven, meaning; each group has its own singular base icon and when clicked, it opens to show all of the file, program, website icons I have dragged and dropped onto the main icon.
My main page, therefore, as you've seen it, is a collection of groupings but NOT "GROUPS", as Start11 Groups need and use (as you've said) TITLES, not icons.
Somehow, I (over a year ago?) discovered this workaround. Because it worked, I treated it and expected it to work as if the program was written to include its steps. It did, but only to a point as we've been discussing.
Now, with this understanding, I do not think I can ultimately and reliably do what I want to do with this program.
Thoughts, pelaird?
If you wanted to use folders to group your shortcuts, you would need to create at least one group with a legitimate name and then create the different folders in that group. Be aware you can use a custom icon for the folders you create.
In the example below, I inverted the text color for the group name so that it is less prominent on the Start11 menu.

I'll try that!
Happy Thanksgiving.
And you as well. I hope this will sort out the issues you have been suffering from.
