Will there be a way to get rid of the Miami Vice-ness of the game? Everything is very shiny and neon saturated. (The 80's called they want their palette back.)
You have several choices on your color scheme. You won't have to be Miami Vice.
I went under the settings/graphics and didn't find an option to change color schemes. Is this a "future" ability in the finished game you are referring to?
1. When you choose your player colors and you can switch the mesh coloring between minimum and maximum. minimum will drastically reduce the amount of color and will use mostly the base hull color (e.g. gray for TEC).
2. Our internal build (destined for the Advent release coming soon) has much more muted color options you will be able to choose from.
Looking forward to it.
Would you also want to change the GUI colors, or other aspects, or were you just referring to the ships?
I don't think anything in the game should be neon but the ships just look goofy in those colors. I understand other people will have opinions different from mine but I would personally not play it if those were the only colors available. Sorry for the late response.
So your deciding factor in playing a game if it has/has not some vibrant neon colors? That's interesting.
Why would it not be?
How awesome things look is a not-insignificant factor in the games appeal. If you really don't like vibrant neon colours, of course that could be an issue.
Regardless, this topic has been addressed as per Blair's point, worth checking out newer screenshots if it's important to you.

Please just give players a color pallete and brightness slider as per dawn of war 1. Everybody can do what they want for their faction.
Those that want it to look less immersive and less realistic can have pokemon cartoon looks and those that want to feel they are in star wars or star trek can do that as well. It does not need to be either or.
As you know. If I had to to choose. I’d choose non acid trip colors.
It's time to step in. I agree with the choice of the perfect color correction to suit everyone's taste, personalization is the idea of each player But I also agree with the opinion of the development team, similar or identical colors are a problem for people with color blindness and novice players, the score can go for seconds to make out the locations of enemy ships and their own.A likely solution: In the match settings, make the "Advanced colors" option and make a small caption "Do not confuse yourself with the enemy" Such a simple installation -- Basic/Expanded colors can please absolutely all players.(I would vote for this outcome)So okay, since I started this post, it's worth mentioning my thought that appeared 2 months ago. This is about the interface. But how can you complement the ideal? It's simple! The choice! The ability to turn on and off some visual elements, such as icons of ships and in particular Missiles and Squadrons, ask why? For some, this is a good way to reduce visual noise on the screen, get rid of excess color, to enjoy the battle of ships and admire the boundless space, "Maybe turn on the cinematic mode?" but how to keep in touch with important aspects - Fleet management, calculation of economic costs, etc. in general, such a function is a mixture of cinematic mode and normal Here are more arguments in favor of the innovation: My friend has mentioned more than once that the meeting of 2 or more fleets in one gravity well is a sore subject, too many "colored elements" move on the screen and it is very tiring for the eyes. Players with epilepsy (Although there should be strict restrictions for them in terms of all the bright and unexpected effects.Corvettes, Missiles, Squadrons - can you exclude only them from the visual noise?Well, for small things, OG style for planets, make a parameter that returned the visual appearance of the planet (Only the icon of which the player belongs to, and remove the colored outline) Return the portrait of the Advent Goddess available for selection
I agree. Why would color blindness be a problem if their were color modes for that? A lot of games gave color blindness modes, or team color modes.
These modes also fix the dev teams concerns that people won’t be able to differentiate custom color schemes or icons.
Maybe I exaggerated the problem too much, I'm just worried about that small part of the players
