After Windows update to 24H2, I cannot see the image when I save backup snapshot. It shows white blank page instead. Remove and re-install Fences doesn't help. I already updated Fences to the latest version 5.5.4 but the problem still persists. Anyone know how to solve this issue please?
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Unless I am mistaken, Windows 11 v24H2 is still under insider released. If so, it is not supported. Appreciate the report.
Thank you.Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Same issue with 23H2
I also am seeing a problem with general saving of fences. I can create a new fence, save it and it remains on reboot. But the sizes are never saved and revert on reboot each time.
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please create a new post for your issue, also, include information as request below.
Same issue here as digimonup in post #1 too with Fences 5.54 and Windows 11 Pro 24H2 Build 26100.1000 via the Windows Insider Release Preview program.
I updated to Fences 5.56 Beta and still have the same issue with snapshot thumbnails being white and about 80% of the icons in the left and right side fences appearing on the desktop instead after every reboot. If I move them back into the fences then they reset back to the desktop after a reboot. 8 of the 40 icons stay in the fences though.
Clearly this issue needs to be fixed ahead of the official release of Windows 11 Pro 24H2. Is this being looked at?
Is there a workaround we can use for now? Kind of annoying to have the icons messed up. I guess I could create portals instead of fences as the icons in the two I have on my desktop show with all the icons inside and haven't messed up on restarting my PC.
Hello,I have forwarded this issue to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

While we appreciate the heads up, as noted, there is no immediate action to be taken with beta versions of Windows.

@ sdrohan - Windows 11 24H2 will likely be released in September so is only a matter of weeks away from official release. I installed mine from the Release Preview which is much lower down the testing ranks than the Beta or more riskier programs, and is usually the final release code, just released a few weeks earlier.
Surely, it is better to be addressing this issue now, or at least investigating it, from reports of people using the pre-release build than fixing it when people are using it and reporting issues in the thousands?
This is the reason why people test pre-release software after all so that issues can be ironed out for the majority on final release. I doubt that Windows 11 24H2 will change that much between now and its official release that would make any changes to Fences now a waste of time or effort.
If I had a nickel for every instance where that was said only to see MS change it...
Again, it is extremely helpful and welcome that you all send us these things - frankly, we depend on it as you 'bleeding edgers' wade in waters we cant spend considerable time in (see all my nickles for the reason).
That said, my statement should not be seen as a 'pfft, whatever', rather, since it does not appear to be app-breaking, there is not immediate need to have it addressed. It will, however, be logged and looked into.
Again, thanks for the report, DRHodgson.
Hi all, this should be resolved in v5.59 which is now in beta 🙌
Just to add to this post, I'm getting the same issue also with the official 24H2 which was released a few days ago and my machine automatically updated to.
But I am still using Fences 4 as V5 is out of my budget range right now... Fences is also all updated as I have just checked again. Now I need to do a reinstall of my machine and my current Fences are not the same or even backed up correctly...So how do I proceed with this?
Current Fences Version is 4.22 as per below...
If you install the trial for Fences 5, does it still happen?

OK, so just a heads up. I did a full format / reinstall of Win 11 24H2.Reinstalled Fences 4 and loaded the last backup, even though it was white as above. All restored 100%, so not sure why the image is white, but the restore still works perfect.Looking at it right now and the current Daily snapshot is still white. So much be something in the new Win version that's causing it.
All good to know but I am still wondering if its an issue at all if you install the Fences 5 trial.
Not sure. I already have too many fences and takes a while to get them all setup.Install and reinstall, not something I want to do right now.I might look at getting Fences 5 month end, but not sure if I need it as 4 is doing what I need right now.
Hi
I am also having the same problem on both my PCs - one using Fences 3 and the other Fences 4. How do I fix this please?
Stephen Lovell
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know what is your current Windows version and OS Build number. Windows 10 or 11?
Thank you,Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Hi - both PCs are running windows 11 build 26100.4202
Perhaps Fences 4 no longer compatible with your Windows 11 24H2. Please do a free 30 days trial on Fences 6 and see if the issue still appear on that version.
Thank you,
Just one point before I try that. - I have a perpetual license for both versions 3 and 4 of fences so doesn't perpetual mean that it will work for life? OR until it's broke.? So do stardock need to provide a fix for these versions? Otherwise if V6 works do I get a fee upgrade for both?
Thanks
Stephen
Just come across a further place where the text is unreadable though if take a snip it comes out ok but a photo never lies. See the problem??
Broke also in the shortcuts page. Unreadable text in the boxes
'Perpetual' means the license is good 'forever', not that the product will survive the evolution of changes made to Windows. Stardock, like all developers, finances new feature development and keeps pace with Microsoft's changes to Windows with newer versions.
I am sorry to hear you say that because other firms that offer perpetual licenses do mean what they say. I am given free updates for life after having paid for what should mean what it says. I dont read small print so I suppose you have this covered in there. Also the subscription way is yet another way to make MORE money.
You have just lost me as a buyer of your products so I wonder how long my perpetual license for Multiplicity will last???
From a disgruntled
I understand our concern and it has produced a language discussion internally.
That said, any version you purchase outright, Fences 6, Multiplicity 4, those versions will work forever.
