I setup a fence for all new icons. That works as expected - except now I would like to drag an icon to another fence but it stays in the original fence. How can I move a not so new icon to another fence? Do I have to turn the rule off and then back on later?
Problem is worse than I thought. I cannot drag any icons to a different folder. Unless there is a fix, I may have to go back to fences 4.
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Dev have removed "Lock Fences" feature from Fences 5. Try this, use https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1621360668/Show+'Lock+Fences'+in+Fences+5 to have Fences 5 get back it "Lock Fences" function. Once that it done. Check if Fences is actually locked. Unlock it and try again. Report back if that is not the case.

Install the reg file ok. Clicked to lock it then clicked to unlock. No change that I could detect. I still cannot remove an icon. Does the computer need to be restarted for that to take effect?
Okay, now that is out of the way, do you have any other 3rd party sortware, that might introduce desktop overlay such as that mentioned here in this thread: https://forums.stardock.com/494957/get;3749819
Added: No, it should be immediately move to the desktop or to another Fences, depend where you let go the mouse button. One question, when you click, hold it and drag, does that clicked icon follow the mouse drag? Or nothing happen to the icon under the click?
Thank you,

Just FYI I cannot duplicate your issue. Since I rarely move icons after they're placed I had to test it and it works fine for me. As Basj suggested could something else be inteferring?
I removed ccleaner and rebooted. No change. Must be something else causing a problem. I noticed that I also cannot create a new fence.
Please try cleanboot: https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#cleanboot
I just noticed that object desktop and the windows control panel both say that fences 4 and 5 are both installed.
Have you tried the cleanboot?
I did a safe boot of Win 11. Problem is that fences is then not loaded. Is that what you meant?
Please load Fences, but don't load those others application yet. See if Fences work without all other software running in the background. Once that is confirmed. You should enable those other application one at a time, until Fences stop working again. This should tell you which of those software is causing the issue.
Note: Do know Fences need to have Startup twice. For it to work properly.
I tried that for a little while. No luck - not worth it. I uninstalled ver 5 and reinstalled v 4 which does not have that problem. Let me know when you fix the problem. If not very soon then I need a refund.
I don't think it can be fix until we can reproduce the issue on our side. To go forward, maybe you can try Windows Sandbox https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#sandbox.
I did not see enough new features useful to me to make it worth my time to experiment with fences5. I will just stick with fences 4 for now. I may try again in a few months.
