Hi,
I'm just about to purchase the activation code for Start 11V2 after just trying it for a few days.
I was curious if new versions of Start 11 come out, do you automaticcaly get an update or do you have to re-purchase the product again ?
Thank you
Stardock will only charge for a major upgrade I.e. v1 -> v2. V2 has more than 25 changes from v1, and several of them completely new features. No one has to upgrade from v1 to v2 unless they want the new features. V1 is still fully functional.
Hello Vinnie,
Start 11v2 is still pretty new and should get several updates before you have to worry about upgrading to the next version. With that said my best guess is the next version of start will be start 12 specifically designed to work with Windows 12. This will not be a free upgrade, traditionally it is something like a 4 dollar upgrade fee.
My personal opinion is this. Yes, we are close to a Windows 12 release and thus will likely have to pay for start 12 if we chose to upgrade to Windows 12. But.... start 11v2 is pretty dang good and deserves to be bought anyways. I couldn't see myself living without start 11 v2 while still on Windows 11. Fortunately the start series is pretty cheap and that made the decision easier, at least for me.
Hope this helps
Hi PhoenixRising1
Thanks for your time and advice. I actually agree with your sentiments exactly, so based on that will go ahead and purchase Start 11 V2.
By the way I was just killing time and tried out DeskScapes. It's fantastic and it's totally transformed my desktop background. Give it a go, if you haven't already.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New year 🎄🎅🎄🎅
Hi DrJBHL
I'm very impressed with the help from the forum here I must say.
Thank you for your advice and support. It makes sense they would only charge for a major upgrade after all the hard work that goes into creating a new product.

Vinnie225866...same back atcha. Good to see someone who's appreciative of the hard work the devs put into the software.
Here's some holiday karma to get you started because everyone should have some karma.
Hi
Just a quick question please.
If you purchase the activation key for Start 11 , is it associated with a certain email address always ?
The reason I ask is I am using the trial on another email address but , if it is associated with an email address , I would like it to be to my main system email address.
Hello,
I believe when you purchase a new Stardock software product, you will need to enter an email address, make sure you enter correctly, since lot and lot of time people missed spell their email address and having issue activating the product later.
Anyway, there is these steps you can do to change the email address later: https://forums.stardock.com/486311/accounts-and-activation-support-faq#changeemail
Thank you.Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Not trying to hijack this thread, but Phoenix1 and Vinnie225866, you might be interested in this Neowin article:

Thank you Basj, That's extremely helpful. I didn't realize you could change your email account after purchase as well.
Many thanks !!
Happy New Year !!
It will be very interesting to see what Microsoft ends up doing for sure. I am actually glad that new management came in and started rolling back some of the changes old management put in. For example, the moments updates were a terrible idea and I am glad they will be removed.
What I don't like though is that Microsoft seems unsure what to do with the Hudson Valley update. Either it looks like Windows 11 or it looks like Windows 12. It shouldn't be that hard to figure out what they actually have. So it looks like we are 50 / 50 as to whether we will get Windows 12 or Windows 11 24h2 next year.
Additionally, I remember Jafo making a joke a while back that Microsoft would not have the guts to release Windows 13. It looks like he is correct. Microsofts new management seems to be more clear in breaking the 3 year cycle of new releases. Meaning Windows 13 is cancelled. What ever happens next year whether it is Windows 12 or more Windows 11, Microsoft will stick only to annually releases for that OS without making a move to a new OS every 3 years.
Basically, once Microsoft figures out what it is doing.. All this is actually good news for Stardock, because Microsoft is about to finally settle down.
