Hi there,
I am using Start11 1.47
Beginning yesterday I had suddenly trouble with Firefox (119.0 64bit) just constantly flashing and giving me the "Gah, the tab just crashed"-treatment.
When trying to troubleshoot (including completely removing Firefox and any folder related to Mozilla before re-installing), I came across the "third-party"-plugins. One of which is apparently start10_64.dll.
My questions;
- is this normal that Start11 would use the start10_64.dll? Shouldn't Start11 use a newer version? When looking into the Start11 folder there are heaps of Start10 (including exe) files there. As this laptop came with Windows11 pre-installed, I am pretty sure I installed Start11 from the beginning.
Could it be possible that Start11 is responsible for the problem I am experiencing with Firefox?
As an update; as the browser.launcher is disabled due to the previously mentioned failure, I can't just block the Stardcock third-party plugin (the block button is missing).
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, no, it is not normal. I use Firefox on Start11 V1.X system without an issue and only recently move to Start11 V2 when it come out. As for Start10xx files. From what I know there always some Start10xx files in there when I install Start11. Here what I have in my system today. There are some Start10xx files in there. I am not in Dev, don't ask me why, but if it still work, why not.
Maybe you can try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.
Thank you,Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Start10_64.dll is used for the name to ensure compatibility with apps which interact with Start11 and were designed for Start10.
The dll shouldn't be being loaded into Firefox however, but it may have been in the past with a much older version so it may be Firefox is remembering it, hence the lack of a block button?
Thank you for your inputs. I have tried to uninstall Start11, screening my system for the dll in question and making sure it is no longer present, but I have still problems with Firefox. So Start11 didn't seem to be the culprit.
I have upgraded to Start11v2 now. Seemed to be a good time as any.
P.S: good to see you are a Community Assistant now basj
