So, this is a new problem. I've never had a game cause all my games to not work before. I installed GC4 last night and tried to play it. It crashes at galaxy loading, every time. I can create the game I want, but it always crashes before loading the game map. No biggie, I thought. It's early access, so I didn't expect a perfect product, yet. I decided to go play another game (Bannerlord). Bannerlord crashed on loading. Ran a file check on it, came back fine. Tried playing another game, crashed on loading. I tested multiple other games as well. I have been playing most of these games regularly for weeks. So, GC4 being the only recent change to my computer, I uninstalled it and tested the other games again. All worked fine. So i reinstalled GC4 and tested again. None work. I repeated this process 4 times to be sure it wasn't an anomaly. For some reason I haven't been able to figure out, GC4 is disabling all of my game library. It may not be the game itself, but possibly a Steam issue? Any input or ideas would be appreciated.
Hello! This sounds like a very unique issue, and so we should start with the basics. Firstly, have you tried verifying the game files?
After talking with the team, it sounds like it may be corrupted VC++ redist.
If you have the option it may also be worthwhile to try re-running all the installers under Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist - repairing
Let me know how this goes, and if it resolves.
Probably your system becomes unstable for some reason when running Gal Civ 4. Their can be a thousands of reasons for this (verifying game files, system requirements, access and rights to User>Documents>MyGames folder etc.).
Do the game crash or do you exit the game yourself manual via taskmanager or by Steam? If so, are you sure no files related to Gal Civ 4 still running in the background while you try to start any other game?
If so, did you tried to restart your system every time Gal Civ 4 crashes for you or do you directly try to play another game after Gal Civ 4 crashes for you without restarting your system (or at least exit and restart Steam)?
The issue is not that strange if that happens without a system or Steam restart. But it's an almost impossible issue when it happens after a Steam and/or system restart.
Yes, files were verified as being correct.
I went to the folder you mentioned, but there is no repair option there. If there is another way to do it, I will try that. I did reinstall the game and run verification on all my currently installed games. All verified correctly. I may uninstall all the ones I'm currently not playing to see if there is any conflict with one of those. I, admittedly, am not versed enough in computers to know anything about VC + + redist.
Ok, so I uninstalled roughly 80% of my active games and retried playing GC4. It loaded fine this time. I then tried playing the other games still installed and they loaded fine as well. So there was an obvious issue with an existing game. My memory storage was nowhere near full and my ram and gpu were never over 50% of their capacity, so I don't know what the issue was. Regardless, uninstalling games I wasn't playing seems to have corrected the problem. I've never had that particular issue though, so this was interesting, to say the least. Have a great day.
If you're bored, you could add them back one at a time until you find the one that caused the conflict
I might actually do that on a day when I have more free time. It may provide valuable insight.
