Hi and please help,
I was using Fences many years ago on another machine and now planned to get started again with the new version.
BUT, I'm unable to right-click and enable fences at the desktop, also unable to make any fences at the desktop.
SW seems ,,not to run,,
I have read tips and tricks in the forum, from similar cases but still without any success.
- Installation seems ok.
- In the Task Manager - Fences Settings, 2 lines are running as ,,enabled,,
- I am able to adjust things inside the App Customize Fences, where also enable fences are clicked.
I have done uninstall and re-install, as-well as playing to move all folders into one folder.. nothing works.
Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 22H2
Installed on 2023-03-29
OS build 19045.2788
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4190.0
Hoping for a simple and fast answer,
Jonas
Sig file should be in this directory. "C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Fences4". I believe those files is not from that directory. It should be something like screenshot below.
Thank you,

Ok found it, this is how it looks like, so that's not the issue. I have this file installed.
I can't get it to work either, was working fine until I clean installed windows yesterday to Windows 10 22H2 using OS build 19045.2846.
I have the license files. Tried disabling firewall in case that was messing with activation checks. None of the versions installed via Object Desktop or the subsequent updates worked.
- I recently changed my CPU from an old 4790k to a 5600x, gpu from GTX980 to a 6700xt if that matters.
- I'm installing Fences 4 via object desktop. I notice when I go to fences > about > check for updates , I get "Your copy of Fences is up to date". When I go to the Object Desktop manager, I notice Fences 4 has an "Update" button.

Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. I am glad to announced that the Dev team has probably found out the issue and might be coming out with an update build very soon.
ThanksBasj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Oh, that's good to know thanks.
Sorry for going off-topic, but I was wondering if I'll have to renew my Object Desktop license if the update is released after my license expires in 2 days. Want to make sure I budget for that if I do.
I believe, from what I know, once you subscription expired, you can not download any files from your ObjectDesktop section. As mention here: https://forums.stardock.com/486310/object-desktop-support-faq#subscriptionlapse.
Hello all,
Here a workaround you can try: (Note: Only do it if you comfortable with it.)
Workaround:
Set-Location ~\Desktop
certutil.exe -GenerateSSTFromWU roots.sst
Import-Certificate roots.sst -CertStoreLocation Cert:\LocalMachine\Root\
Try it and report back.
Paul... In response to your question as to whether I was running this on a VM...
No.
Object Desktop Manager needs fixing. In the meantime, it's best to check your version against the available one at
https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products
Then under Object desktop manager, click on View Individual Downloads.
Just tried this and it worked! Thanks!
It created a file called "roots.sst" on my Desktop.. is it important to leave it there?
Great, thanks for reporting back. As for the "roots.sst" file. I deleted it on my system, rebooted and the Fences still work as normal. So my guess, yes, you can delete it off after it get imported in.
Wow, glad there is a solution. Tough one. Tested in my VM and worked like a charm.

So, I'm looking forward for this "update build" that might fix it and make fences work then!? Let us know Basj.
Thanks,
I understood from Stardock and C242, the are solutions available now!?
When would the "update build" be ready..., that I understand is a new installation file?S
Should I wait for this or, try to get the workaround going?

Its up to you, you can wait, if you not comfortable with doing the workaround. Any new build will be announced in the Fences Section Pinned thread here: https://forums.stardock.com/forum/501
This has to do with a certificate that was bad by the issuer (not us). This could be resolved with a Windows update (and how others avoided seeing it at all). It MAY solve the issue as root certificate distribution is a dark science of sorts.

Dear Support at Stardock,
I'm waiting for your feedback about when the "update build" will be available so I can make a new installation or an upgrade to the existing one, to enable use of the product I have paid for.
Please let me know.
