Hello all
I'm new to this forum so go easy.
All the way from NZ I must say I'm enjoying the game so far. However, I would love to see the following items addressed as I always felt the 1st Sins was a bit flat. I'm a huge Total War fan and I've always loved their living world maps. Sins 2 feels like it needs more life breathed into the game in terms of idol animations to make the gravity wells seem more alive. It would be cool seeing ships travel between structures, planets change with growth/development etc. Currently the only movement you see during the quite moments enjoying the cinematic views are trade ships moving around. Apart from that, the gravity wells seem lifeless.
I also feel like the planets need to be bigger as it currently feels like I'm fighting over a soccer ball.
Thoughts / opinions?
I agree wholeheartedly with all you have said. Also that Sins1 although a great and unique gem oif a game, but that it got stale fast. I could only play one complete game of it every so often because of the repetitive nature of the late game and the face that the game pretty much played the same every single time in terms of research and battles. It was blob wars with the largest blob winning.
I've said elsewhere i'd loved sins to take stellaris's research tree and ship building system. Which at least adds a little more in the rock paper scissors department without it feeling as formulaic.
Total War? Yes I too think that sins2 would benefit from a little more life. But rather I don't think the solution is more traffic in the gravity well, but more personalities as leaders of ships and planetary governments etc. I'd want to see some personalities come out of characters experiences in game. Promotions and even traits gained as their home planets get raided and such. The static portraits are not doing it for me. Nor is the super sparkly pastel colour pallete. You could even transport personalities between planets on envoy ships to new roles on recently conquered planets.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see more traffic and events happening in gravity wells. But I cannot see it happening due to the assets and performance issues they would bring. What do you want to see? Starliners, science vessels, tourist vessels, offworld colonies etc? I think more what needs to happen is for us to see people animating things. To see faces move and talk? In stellaris they had cartoonish animations for things but they made things worse as they took you right out of suspension of disbelief by being so goofy.
Hard to know exactly what would work. Agreed the static portraits are a bit dull, I find the factions in general lack personality. Total War games had the same issue a while ago and CA went to great lengths to get players attached to their generals/factions etc. I just find outside of combat everything is a bit static. More animations in general would help I think, maybe a more in-depth political system might help? Character skill trees? How do you get the player attached to their fleets so you value your commanders?
I've never played Stellaris so I can't comment on their systems. I also find after you've researched everything there isn't much to do other than fight. Maybe that's just me though.
Key points:
More attachment to factions.
More immersion.
Animations are out of scope for our project. Perhaps in the future it's something we can look at.
Thanks Yarlen. A frank answer and honest answer, much appreciated.
I am very curious as to what the "scope" of the project includes.
I would love to see orbital structures that actually orbit!
It's particularly frustrating having a stationary missile defense when the planet orbits. Why? Because as the planet orbits the side facing the the pirate raids change. Some well positioned defenses that kill of the siege frigates become completely useless a raid or two later. If the planetary defenses moved, they would be much better for their purpose.
Be better of you could choose the orbit when you place the object and then could research a skill to change orbit. geostationary or stationary
research to change starbase thrusters
