You've seen a few of the new ship features from Yarlen and it got me thinking about how they compare to what they looked like in Rebellion. So let's take a look...
Kol-Battleship
Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion
Sins of a Solar Empire 2
Akkan-Class Battleship
Marza-Dreadnought
Now show me Kortul
I still do'nt understand the need to copy every cap ship, or even the races.
This looks more like an update than a sequel.
The updated Kol looks pretty good, but I think the new Marza looks great - something you really don't want to be on the wrong side of.
I prefer the original Akkan though. The old model seems more detailed and gnarly, eg forward comms / sensor antennae + launch bay and the bits of hull that seem to be welded on extensions.
The old model has that lashed up "civilian ship that's been pressed into emergency military service" look that fits into the early lore of the TEC's first engagements with the Vasari.
Newer version looks a bit too clean, how I imagine the Akkan looked during its, original, civilian role as a passenger liner.
I agree with all of this. It really seems like some more windows on the Akkan would make it look better and still fit nicely lorewise. Marza looks really cool and the Kol is also great, a bit improved from the first look we got.
Old and new akkan look like most weakspots were removed, as if the whole hull was uparmored, covered in plate. Domes and the like remain exposed, so I wonder how that is segmented to prevent any hull breach from all the air going into the space. Still, there are less angles for say shells to get stuck, compared to the old 'armor'. Old Akkan really looked like it should survive a bit more than a big trade ship. In the SoaSE:R intro, Akkan was docking in the trade station, not being the center of trade
Colors that are put on that exact model might make it look worse than it is, however, if any changes are made, (those firing arcs need to fire below themselves as the guy 'Sovereign Echo' made a good post about)
thanks
