I am really sour about this. I refuse to buy ANYTHING off the Epic store.
Startdock you make GREAT software, and while this wasn't a software decision, it was definitely a bad one. I will ONLY buy this game if it comes to Steam. I ABSOLUTLEY HATE installing a million Launchers. Each one, using CPU/RAM, and mining information about my play usage, my computer usage, etc, it's gross that they sell my data and don't compensate me for it.
I have played SoaSE and hooked about 5 other friends on it. I will NOT market this for you UNTIL it's on the steam store.https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/av9976/everything_thats_wrong_with_epic/
I REFUSE to support Tencent
I am curious do you also refuse to buy games from Paradox, Activision, Frontier, Ubisoft and Funcom?Do you also not use Discord or Reddit?Because all of those companies are partly owned by Tencent. (Note: This article hasn't updated since 2020).
I bought Stellaris from the Steam Store before Tencent invested. I don't own any Activision or Frontier or Funcom games.
I have NEVER paid for anything on Discord, and I haven't used reddit in 11 years, about 5 years before they were invested in by Tencent. So no, I don't and I am not being hypocritical.
I refuse to purchase games via Epic too... but not because of Tencent. I refuse because it's Epic.
Back in the day they absolutely refused to bring their games to PC and their CEO (or someone very high up... can't remember their name anymore as it's been well over a decade) at the time was very derisive towards us PC players blaming piracy and other scapegoats at the time... then when they finally decide the money PC uses have is good enough for them they create a storefront that does the exact thing EVERYONE hates about consoles... the stupid exclusivity. Giving them money validates them and I refuse to validate them with any direct money purchases (I say direct because there are games that use their game engine... and buying those games gives them money indirectly... so it's hard to avoid that side of things)
this was was a literal instant buy for me, flaws and all, until I saw epic. now I'm going to have to pretend it doesn't exist until it's available anywhere else.
