I still can't believe they announced Sins of a Solar Empire 2. It's been on my mind non stop since I learned about it. I love the new ship designs for TEC at least, since it looks like they now rose as a true power and have created actual war machines instead of refitting old trade ships.
I do have one concern though. Seeing that it's being made with the intention of being for every/a lot of platforms instead of a sole PC game, I fear that it might be...dumbed down?
I get the point of wanting to reach out for other gamers to have access to the game. I think that's fantastic actually. But the nature of the game, being strategy/tactics with many many units...and as we've seen with new features, will it be manageable on a controller? Or will the fluidity and navigation within the game on the PC be limited due to trying to make it easier without a mouse and keyboard?
Historically, strategy games on consoles are possible, but extremely more difficult. Command and Conquer on the N64 comes to mind. Childhood PTSD.
What are your guy's thoughts?
There is no indication that Sins 2 would be made available for consoles. “Platforms” might actually refer to store fronts instead: Epic Games Store, Steam, Xbox Game Pass, Good Old Games etc. All of them are available for PCs (even the Xbox Game Pass, despite its name), or Windows more specifically (I wonder how will it run on Linux under Wine or its Steam fork, Proton).
That makes sense actually. I guess I've only used Steam and didn't think Origin, GOG, etc were considered different platforms versus like PS5, Xbox, etc. Serious doi on that end. Still really looking forward to this!!
Also anxious to see how Linux will work with it.
I am so disappointed it's an Epic exclusivity...I bought the game and all of it's DLCs several times for me and some friends...
But I will never buy on Epic. The wait is gonna kill me
Agreed, I will only support Ironclad/Stardock directly or via Steam. I would HAPPILY pay $20 more if it was a Steam Exclusive.
You should be worried. They are even banning people on the steam forums for having an opinion about it. I've reported them to steam moderation and will no longer be a stardock customer from now on. The only way to get anything done is to vote with your wallet. All the galcivs 1-3 (elite founders edition on the last one even), sins 1, all the elemental games. Wish I could just take all my money back from you Brad Wardell. You can even have your signed copy of the terrible book you wrote for elemental back too. Company has become a joke.
The "I played your games and now you owe me" vibe is really an annoying tactic I keep seeing on the boards here. Every time Stardock made a move or suggested a change in the past with Sins, this was done over and over. Every. Single. Time. It is right up there with Greta Thunberg shouting, "How dare you!".
First: don't pre-buy if you don't like it. Problem solved.
Second: Don't alpha participate if you hate it. Irritation avoided.
Third: If you are actually invested in seeing a Sins 2, understand ONLY Stardock is going to do it.
Fourth: If you hate Brad Wardell, you are out of luck. He owns the game. If you can't get past that, you're never going to be happy.
Fifth: If you think insulting, demeaning and divisive demands produce the best results, your parents didn't put you in the corner enough as a child..
Sixth: If you are really with the game happening and have passionate views, learn how to make an effective pitch. Recruiting online for protesters, calling the company greedy and stupid, insulting the CEO and acting as if they have to let you dictate a business plan to them--all while delivering egotistical tirades--don't show how interested in the game you are, they show how attention seeking and entitled you are. It's cyber "do you know who I am-ism". You become the new Karen.
I know I immediately get tired about the third time I read into a rant threaf. I doubt it motivates the developers any more.
I was in the closed alpha for Rebellion and by the second day there were a couple of testers having meltdowns and screaming. Some of them went on to start, "Let's all leave the game together" protest groups and swore they would never return (I already see a couple of them back picking right up where they left off, btw).
None of the childish asshat wailing improved anything thrn. It just made everything drama.w
And that frankly is what 90% of angry posting is.
There are two games being played here, the ones for attention and the ones trying to make the game happen.
Acting like adults gets a lot better results.
This isn't directed at any particular poster, just noticing a trend.
If they have to start with Epic (which is a business decusion), I will live. People screamed about Steam too with Rebellion. Now everyone loves it.
