Stardock and Ironclad Games Team Up for Sins of a Solar Empire II
Yes, you read that right: the time has come to share that we have begun development on Sins of a Solar Empire II!
Following in the footsteps of its critically acclaimed predecessor, this highly anticipated sequel will seamlessly blend real-time strategy and 4X gameplay to deliver a grand space conflict equal parts immersive and intense, while introducing a whole new level of detail and raising the bar on what it means to become the ruler of a vast space empire.
Sins of a Solar Empire II will once again explore the tragic war between the desperate Vasari, emergent TEC, and the vengeful Advent as their struggle leaves them exposed to much greater threats. Each race will further distinguish their play styles with unique game mechanics, new and reimagined units, extensive research trees, and refined sub-factions.
Players will need to evaluate real-time celestial mechanics, observing the orbits of planets and moons while expanding their empires and maneuvering fleets. Meanwhile, savvy battle commanders must leverage ship positioning and point defense turret tracking speeds to intercept swarms of enemy missiles. At every level, Sins of a Solar Empire II is packed with new features, mechanics, and customization that open up a host of new strategies and tactics.
“We’ve enjoyed battling it out with our friends over at Ironclad Games, engaging in massive fleet battles during development,” says Brian Clair, Stardock’s Director of Publishing. “The new ways of interacting with each other and the neutral parties have created some incredible ‘I can’t BELIEVE that just happened!’ moments. Teaming up with Ironclad on this long-awaited sequel is yielding great results.”
Sins of a Solar Empire II demands a galaxy filled with thousands of units - from individual missiles to colossal titans - all while maintaining high fidelity visuals and smooth frame rates. Powering this is a new, custom 64-bit multicore engine called Iron Engine 3. This bespoke engine will also go a long way to addressing long-standing player requests like seamlessly rejoining multiplayer games and improved modding.
“The mod community has been integral to the success and longevity of Sins of a Solar Empire,” Clair said. “There’s a new in-game mod library that we think they’ll be very pleased with, along with a host of other new features we’re excited to talk about in the future.”
Blair Fraser, co-owner at Ironclad Games, adds, “We really appreciate the long-term support from all our fans. They’ve been asking for years if they will ever see a successor – we can finally answer with a resounding ‘YES!’”

I only hope this presence on the Epic store isn't exclusive forever, I don't mind it if it's for pre-ordering or early access, but I sure as crud along with a lot of people are never going to buy this if it's on epic forever.
please don't shoot yourself into the foot and release the early access onto steam as well, many good games had their wings cut because people hate playing on Epic that even barely opens sometimes
Agree about the EPIC exclusivity. I will only pay for the game directly or via Steam.
#JustSayNoToAnymoreLaunchers
I lived a decade without EA; I didn't support their launcher, just as I won't support Epics attempt to buy the industry.
No Steam, No Purchase.
I hate EPIC and their exclusives game launches, but at least EPIC gamers are good beta testers before Steam release. Its a shame that I will need to wait additional year or more before I could actually play the game. What a pity
#SteamOrNoGo
I absolutely love, how people calling themselves "A Big Fans" of Stardock and SofSO, and yet they revile both of them, blabbering about "losing their trust" and refuse to buy the game, just because they can't have it on Steam.I have both Steam and EPS, I am right clicking their hidden icons on the bottom panel of the desktop and choosing the game i like easily, and i found NO problems in seeking games i like nether on Steam, nor on Epic Games Store. If this little problem is enough for you to throw away your "love" and "devotion", then it had a small price from the very beginning.
Its not the Point that our love for Stardock is so small. The Point is that the Hate we got for Epic just grew so fucking big over the past few Years. A company that just fucking plays hero that "fights for the weak and poor", anouncing to start a war against Monopolys while just doing the same sh*t with the Unreal Engine and doing nothing but ripping the PC Gamers Community apart.
This Topic is so emotionaly loaded that you just cant break it down with "You dont really love Stardock if you say that". Many of us would buy GalCiv4 or SoaSE2 on a Stardock launcher instead of Steam or for much more money than 32$ but not. on. fucking. epic.
And for real. Stardock would have less Problems with those Steam-Spams if they would just finally answer the Question. "Ya, its just not at Steam at the moment but it will be.... maybe.... or not.... we dont have something to say because.... Ya just accept it." IS NO ANSWER.
And that we dont stop asking instead of just forget about Stardock IS the validation that we love Stardock games. But we just cant (or want to) stop fight against Epic at this point.
How are you seeing a $32 price? It's listed as $39.99 for me (USA). Or is there a coupon code floating around?
They very likely mean 32 euro. Weirdly enough, the euro price is just a lot lower than the dollar price, even though the dollar is worth more currently.
I've got to agree with Amasha1 here. It seems silly to me to be so loyal to steam or so anti-loyal to Epic that you would give up purchasing a game that you claim to be a big fan of, and avoid supporting a company that you claim to be a big fan of, because its not being sold by your preferred soulless game store.
It is the equivalent in my mind to being upset that a product you really want is only found in Amazon and not at Walmart, and claiming that the reason you would purchase from Walmart but not Amazon is because Amazon treats it's employees horribly. As if Walmart doesn't. If the emotional strain over some fight you've had with Epic is too great to buy A game, ok fair enough. But Steam and Epic are too big to notice a few people not pre-ordering a game by Stardock. Stardock, however, releases few enough titles over the span of a decade to feel the effects of people not buying the latest release.
I don't know what Stardock's reason for releasing the early access exclusively on Epic is. Maybe they decided that too many people on steam treat "early access" as "this game is done already, why does it have bugs and not all the content!?! Downvote!" Or perhaps they're getting some sort of kickback that would help the company by releasing exclusively for a time on Epic's store. Or perhaps there's something going on behind the scenes between them and Steam that they're not privy to talk about. Or perhaps for the Early Access release they actually need funds and can't handle Steam's 30% cut since, and so Epic's 12% cut is what they have to deal with right now. But regardless of the reason, I really don't care. I preordered the game because I want to play the game, I want to support Stardock, and which soulless megacorp takes a cut of my purchase makes no difference to me.
To Stardock, congrats on the upcoming release! I've been waiting for this game for a long time. Sins Unity was the only good game that ran on my laptop in college. While Skyrim would tank to 5 fps, Sins always ran flawlessly, so I have many good memories of it. I can't wait to get Sins 2 on my new rig. Cheers and congrats again.
i know this thread has not been used for a bit but i just wanna give my 2 centsFirst off iv played sins for 9 years or so torrenting it onto crapy computers untill i finnally had a good pc and bought it and all the versions of the game plus all the dlc's that have come out, price is not an issue and not cause i have alot of money or anything its because this game is so good and the devs actually care about it (which is rare now a days). But i do find it odd that i play so many early access titles and on november 8th found out about my favorite game getting a sequel from a random youtube video from a youtuber i don't even watch rather then an annoucment on steam, personally i am one of those i stay on steam cause screw you thats why, i don't see way i need to tell you why haveing multiple accounts across multiple launchers is annoying but it is. (Ps metro exodus was a great game that i still have not bought on steam cause i don't wanna pay for somthing i don't want to replay)I bought the game on the epic store downloaded their laucnher and played the game for 30 minutes and realized id rather just go play sins atleast untill they add a ui scale slider so i can actaully read the text, so yea i have refunded my purchase and deleted the epic launcher,So my only question is how would fans know about this game, i for one only play single player and have never touched a mod or watched youtube content around sins cause i honestly belive the core game is just so good i can't find a single reason as to why i would need mods or care to watch others play the game when i could just be playing it myself, do i have to sign up for emails with my only email addres that i never look at cause who actually looks at their emails.
Guess ill just go back to sins single player and keep my head down untill stardock desides they want me to know this game exsists. im fine with them picking a store (its the marketing teams not the devs anyways) its just the fact that they didn't even feel like telling me that they were makeing sins 2 kinda just hurts years of support and they not only picked a side but also left without a single word, i will stay on steam cause i want to and if they don't want my money then thats fine.
They said they actually wanted a 'small' group of players to test the game, and they're overwhelmed by the 'large' amount of players that picked it up for the technical preview. So they didn't market it too much on purpose. I think you were part of the target audience, but I assume you do not follow Sins/Stardock/Ironclad on twitter and facebook, and did not join the subreddit or discord. Anyone present on any of these would know the game is coming.
And I assume UI scaling is coming soon. My hope is that a lot of QoL comes later this month.
yea i don't use social media at all same with alot of friends who also love sins, if its not pushed to me on steam/youtube then im out of the loop. But my mian point really is will they tell us? i know its pre alpha but when its not will they let me know, ill buy it again if its still on epic in a few months/years but will they tell anyone else that has hundreds of hours played on steam.(or does steam not allow it)
Also i maybe should have clarified the ui thing is mainly just me cause iv been under going eye surgery and recovery for a while, i wasen't knocking them for it not being their, i just need it to be able to play most games right now even the ui in sins is a bit to small sometimes i just don't need to read any of it anymore to play..
It's a good question how they will market it eventually. I assume they'll have some partnerships with youtubers, and the game's existence will be spread by word of mouth already. If it comes to steam (who knows if and when), they can market it through Steam as well. Maybe they'll be allowed to put up a news statement to Rebellion on Steam as well. Luckily, it's not up to me.
