I would like to know when moderation for the GC4 Workshop will be up and running?
It didn't take long for one user to start taking others users ship design contributions and start pirating and re-upload them back to the GC4 Workshop under his own name without consent or permission of the original authors.
This has been going on for 7 years on the Steam workshop and thankfully with good moderators violations became fewer and fewer. I was really hoping it would not happen here on the GC4 Workshop.
I would also like to know what the rules for the GC4 Workshop will be and what the policy for violating workshop rules will be?
Any information in regard to GC4 workshop moderation is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Oh I've gotta give credit to my team -- they did the hard work. Glad it's working well. We've got a few more goodies and a few more folks to bring onboard. More goodness coming soon!
Failed to delete mod, please release Korean Version. Bad Request
Unable to remove from workshop. Player should be using proper forums to make language translation request.
I'm still unable to moderate. I tried clearing out cookies, flushed my dns cashe, made sure website url was correct, turned off VPN, made sure firewall wasn't blocking any Stardock website to make sure it's nothing on my end. Tested again with my own design and still getting that error pop up.
I'm ready to give up. Starting to appear as if my access is being denied.
Apologies, and sorry for the frustration. I'm looping in our tech team to see what might be causing that. I wouldn't think it's on your side. Stand by -- looking into this.
Ok, we are able to replicate the issue on our side. We are working on resolution asap.
Thanks Ron. I'm just going let you and your team work this out. 👍
SUCCESS!!!!!!
Its working again.
Thanks to You and the Team!
*thumbs up*
Glad to see things are moving well.
Just again, I want to emphasize this: Moderation is a delicate art. 99.9% of people I deal with online are great people. And 99% of the time when there is a problem it's just an innocent misunderstanding. So the first time you warn someone, be gentle.
In my time in moderating these kinds of libraries, most of the time when there is a "Rip" (which is what we call people using other people's artwork) it's either some kid who has no idea that there's an issue or someone who isn't that technically say who didn't really understand what they were doing.
What's the verdict if someone downloads their own designs based on the races of another publishers IP say AOW Planet Fall.
See my DM on Discord regarding this. I advised against it. I also sent a message to said person and explained it. All is good.
Did after I posted this🤦♂️
i do have a few star trek and star wars civs in my own collection i was considering working on more and uploading, specifically the united federation of planets, because of all the ships from that civ that are already up on the custom ship section. would you advise against uploading those though? considering the names of those star trek ships in the custom ships, i think if anyone on that side was worried about copyright they prob would have said something by now, considering this happened a lot with gal civ 3 with no problems that i know of. i dont have any custom pics though, so i was kinda waiting to see if someone doing more custom pics and flavor text wanted to do it instead. in fact just saw a great looking one starmac made... i think he should be allowed to upload that
In terms of copyright Stardock would have to pull them from the workshop of course if the brand owner would ask for it i think. But since no brand owner ever asked, we are maybe in a greyzone here right now. At least i have never seen ships being pulled from the Gal. Civ 3 workshop for this reason.
I am personally not designing Star Wars or Star Treck ships right now, because there are allready great designers for this kind of ships at work. A lot them are being ported over to Galactic Civ 4 from Gal Civ 3. But generally speaking i can not imagine someone would want to stop you from uploading your designs.
I think it would be more of a problem if someone would upload one of their desings of the same ship 25 times in a row to spam the workshop. (This is a no no.)
I've personally decided not to make Star Trek ships or Civs for GC4. I had my fun with it on GC3. Time to pass the torch, figuritivly speaking, and use my talents elsewhere making original and sci-fi inspired themed content for GC4
I won't be porting anything I made for GC3 to GC4. My first project is going to be loosely based on The Expanse after the series ended. I've already been collecting and making what I need all from scratch and my own designs inspired by the TV series.
This is the route I plan to go. Gonna have fun doing it.
Yeah. I have asked some designers from Galactic Civ 3 if i can port their designs over to Galactic Civ 4. Some of them allowed me to port their ships over to Gal Civ 4. So i am porting small parts of their designs and quote them as the original designer. But of course i can not port one thousand ships over to Galactic Civ 4. And i think it would take away the fun for other designers if i would port to many ships over to Galactic Civ 4.
I am not a great civilisation designer, i have never done that before in Galactic Civ 3. But maybe i give it a try in Galactic Civ 4. But then i would like to design my own civilization with a lot of background.
Starting to notice many players are not filling out the description sections of their custom ship design and civ uploads. Players downloading have no information about what the ship design or civ is about and/or what it does or can do. GC3 Workshop is full of this with ship designs and Civs without descriptions. As a player looking for content to add to my game I would avoid them because there is nothing there to tell me whats it about. Eventually these civs and ship designs with no informative descriptions become clutter other players have to wade through to find ship design and civs that tell them what they're about in the descriptions.
I and many other complained about this for years on the GC3 workshop becoming so cluttered with items having no information telling what they're about. I would like to mark these ship designs and civs as incompatible for being incomplete and ask the authors to fill out the description section and re-upload them to workshop when they are complete. Its unfair to players having wade through it to find ones that are complete. We need to set a better example.
What do you all think?
this is one where i agree with u, but it also doesn't seem to be too important to everyone. the top rated civ for example, the snathi revenge, has a description that doesnt actually say anything about the abilities of the civ other than they're evil. no idea that they're resourceful or paranoid or opportunistic until after u download them, and the citizens for that civ are still set to random instead of snathi, but it's the top rated civ, more than 2x above any of mine that have more inclusive descriptions. ppl often vote for and download stuff based soley on the pic and a very brief description that doesnt really tell u anything about the civ. it's not how i like to rank them personally, but rather than try to foce everyone to add more inclusive descriptions, which they might not want to do, i think that this one should be up to the game to add info on each civ somewhere on the page before u download it. the game already has all the civ and ship info, it just needs to display it
I agree with this, It doesn't need need any stats in the description, just a little bit of brief lore and/or backstory for the player about the custom civs race origins, let the author embellish on stats in the civ itself in game.
Maybe something generic added to the description by the workshop when its uploaded when they neglect or forget to add it in themselves and have it automatically added by the game upon uploading to workshop based on the ships combat role, I could dig that! Of course this would only apply to player made custom civs and ship designs. Give the author an option to leave it or add in their own later.
EFF Commander answered to this thread in another thread in korean. (I used google translator). He said he is not writing anything in the description box because his english is not that good. Furthermore you can not copy paste in the box.
I think you can't fix this problem because a lot of people don't speak english
Maybe an automated generic text for a ship role could be helpfull as Basilisk said.
If people have to write something in the box to upload their desings then they will write it in their mother tongue. And then only the people who speak this mother tongue will understand it anyway.
I have to admit my bad I have removed my Star Wars collection of ships and need to update with descriptions I had ported them over from GC IV some I remodelled but in my haste to get them out so that they could be used this was overlooked.
What may help with adding descriptions in the workshop view where you see view detail's then description away to update the description and repost.....thought's on that.
Yes and an update function for the ship title and the description box would be great. And a copy paste function for the text in the description box. Otherwise you have to remove ship designs only to fix a typo or to add the description text.
Agreed Nav this is something that needs looking into has to be made easier for everyone when uploading designs easy to miss details.....
@Navinor, Now I understand why EFF-Commander has been so adamant about getting Korean translation in the game. I can and do understand where he's coming from and I do not blame him.
I agree with all of you and as Basilisk and I suggested there should be something put in place that automatically adds short description based on ship roles that the games default core race ships already have.
Maybe an algorithm that detects the empty description dialogue box and automatically applies a default description according to ship role. If that can be done.
This would be satisfactory I think. Just have to see what Frogboy and Kael think and if it's possible to do.
If not we are going to be between a rock and a hard place with empty descriptions in the webpage workshop and in game workshop and that's not going to be fair to any one.
We need to set a good example so it's fair to all players including those who can't speak or write in English and those who can. Otherwise I fear we are creating a monster if nothing can be done about it other than removing the non description submissions and asking them to resubmit with description filled in and possibly alienate the community. Leaving it empty just creates complaints, clutter and sets a bad example for others. I would certainly want to avoid that.
The big question is, how do we do this in terms of fair moderation to everyone including ourselves as moderators? We also need to set a good example.
No offense to you Starmac as I can relate to feeling rushed.
