Hello. I am currently designing ships in Galactic Civ 4. I have seen people designing Star Bases and uploading them to the Stardock Workshop. But when i go into the designer, i can not find an option for star bases. The biggest system i can find are the huge hulls. There are cargo hulls as well. But there is no possibility to pick a starter cube for a star base. ( I am using the ship designer trough the menu) Or is it only possible to design them in a game? Or are this old Gal. Civ 3 designes copied over to Gal. Civ 4?
(I have discussed this in Discord. It seems right now it is not possible. The designs being uploaded are designs from Galactic Civ 3 it seems. They were copied and uploaded to Galactic civ 4. This is possible. But designing Star bases right now is not, at least not with a lot of workarounds.)
It's possible - I have one uploaded to the stardock workshop and it was made fresh in game.
In the ship editor you have to click "New Design" then scroll all the way down and there's a small cube...no other designs just the cube.
However, it's actually much easier to do once in a game and then clicking on your spacedock, new design and from there there are even options to build off of one of the core game designs. When I made mine, from the starting cube, I built it all the way up and then uploaded the top level named ".._5" at end, then went backward and took a few things off and made it stage ".._4" etc.
wait....how are people getting the GC3 files to work for GC4?
You mean the normal starter cubes? Yeah i have tested around and finally found out, you can save your desings as "star bases". It is logical, but when someones is a new player, the person would search for a cube called "starbase". Nobody knows you can just take the cube and save it as a starbase.
Yeah i saw your starbases. The thing is when i tried to figure out how you built your starbase, because i did not knew how to build mine at first, i have this wierd problem, that i can not see your starbase even when i try to edit it. I mean i can see it in the first design menu, but when i klick on the starbase, the base is invisible. Literally. I see all the parts you have used, but i can not see your base.
Yes, you can transfer Steam workshop designs to Galactic Civ 4. But not all of them work. I have transfered all of my designs. You have to subsrcibe to the design in Galactic civ 3 workshop, then the design will be saved under the "documents/my games/Galciv3/designs" folder. Or under "GC3crusade/designs"
But don´t ask me how hard it was to download it at all. 6 times my old designs were not downloaded and then they were not showing up in the Galactic Civ 3 designer. I had to go into the game, then into the designer, then open the steam workshop through the designer then unsubscribe ALL of the designs. Then i had to subscribe to my own designs again. But i had to klick on the picture of my design in the steam workshop, open it subsribe there and then close it.
After that i copied the downloaded files into the "Galciv4/designs" folder. So had all my old designs from Gal civ 3 back.
(I have posted the problem with your starbase in the discord, the devs said it looks like a bug. So you know. Your starbases are not visible right now in the designer. You can see a picture in the bug discord channel from Galactic Civ 4.)
That's so bizarre as they are working fine for me in the game. I would guess it's something in the mod file difference between their .gc4moddata vs .gc4cmoddata
Not so surprizing though. A lot of my old downloaded mods never worked in the first place. lol
I have seen you have designed a new Starbase. I will look if i can see it this time in the designer.
Yes that's the one where I got a *little* to into the motion and orbs ....but I was inspired by wanting an economic starbase that looks like it has many different marketplaces for people to visit. Still since I put the time into it I figured offer it up in case someone else wants to build/rebuild off of it.
Sadly it seems right now starbases are bugged. I have downloaded your design, but like last time i can not see your starbase in the designer itself. So bascially right now, in term of starbases you are the only one who can see your own starbase in the designer.
