Talk about utterly and completely useless. It doesnt block movementIt doesnt attack incoming shipsIts completely ignored by the AIIt doesnt block building. It doesnt defend planets. It doesnt support fleet engagementsIt just sits there.. doing nothing, with zero actual function.Cant even make the argument that it'll mine... its mining value is next to nothing, and whenever the AI wants.. it just plops its own starbase (literally right NEXT to it.) .... and mines away, with zero reprecussions. Can we get the icon on the map changed to a giant turd? Cause thats what it is.. in every single possible way. An utterly and completely useless waste of time, population, resources, effort and existence. Can *anyone* tell me why this thing even exists? What its point it? Who designed it and thought... "hey guys.. lets put this giant gun platform in the game... it doesnt actually DO anything.. but it'll look cool!"Are we being trolled by the game devs? Cause thats what this feels like.. like Im being trolled.*Edit* - Not one to complain without offering a solution.. but WHY dont they support fleet engagements in their Zone of Control? Seriously. Why? They do NOTHING.
It's actually sort of Tradition by now that the military starbases are space junk. At best they might scrape the paint of the incoming war armada and make them even madder. Always have been broken.. Apparently that's the ONE thing Stardock just really wants us to have but has never ever put the resource into making them work.
Well they do get access to a lot of useful modules in the mid to late game. However, I am not convinced any of them actually work. By the time you have military starbases with any kind of power guarding the slipstreams, you have probably won the game anyway (in my experience). If they could be made more useful early on then, just perhaps, they might be considered worthwhile. My gripe is that it is reasonably easy to determine what effect the other starbases are having on their local environment, but next to impossible to see what benefit your ships are getting from the nearby friendly military base.
So maybe that is the solution - we need to see the data. We need to see, somehow, that an enemy fleet has been slowed 25%, or their rate of fire reduced, or your point defences buffed. It is simply not good enough for the "game" to hide it in some esoteric algorithm because we, as players, want to understand how we can do better; what can we change; why were we victorious or defeated? Oh and the Area of Effect needs to be far more visible guys - that's if there is any effect. It simply can't be beyond the reach of your coders to flash the Area of Effect and float a little "-25% speed" over an enemy fleet can it?
ps for AoE read ZoC - same thing.
We are looking at giving them two abilities:
1. Auto attack any enemies in their area of effect with a % of their stats.
2. Automatically protect any planets and colonies in their area of effect.
Because frankly, I totally agree with you guys.
I like those ideas, Frogboy. In addition to auto attacking enemies, maybe they could stock ranged missiles for tactical ranged attacks within their area of effect?
I've never built a military starbase since I saw no point... so maybe they have modules that do these things already, but here are a few more ideas:
1. Modules that interfere with enemy defenses
2. Modules that provide bonuses to friendly defenses
3. Modules that increase logistics within their area of effect
Yes, that’s what I mean. Missiles, beam, and mass driver ranged attacks to anything in its area of effect.
there are modules thst buff friendly ships already/
