So I tried the Onyx Hive for the first time in my new playthrough. Is it just me or is their a problem with their growth rate? There growth rate is meant to be linked to your Promethion supplies. However when you mouse over the growth rate on a colony there is no modifier for Promethion. In my game I had a fairly high amount of Promethion supplies yet I was looking at 15 to 20 turns for 1 pop growth. This doesn't seem right to me.
Good question. This was pretty much the first thing I asked in last month's thread and never got a response. Another mystery mechanic. The problem with these mystery mechanics is that we have no idea what the developer's intent is. Without that, we can't evaluate whether the game is working properly or not.
yeah, i've commented about this a couple times too, and i think that they basically want them to have a very, very bad growth rate, like worst in the game by far. they want to counter this by having the race have more hp than any other by far too though, even though they cant heal regularly. prety sure of this because the change they made to the onyx in .8 didnt increase their growth rate at all, but it changed their ships from x2 regular hp to x3, showing that they want this race to grow very slow, but be very big. when u add in-game hp % modifiers they are def very powerful, but will always have a very small territory on bigger maps until they start taking over other civ's planets
Im looking into it. They aren't getting the growth bonus from Promethion correctly, so that definitely needs fixed. We will also add a Prometheus Stone on their homeworld so they can start bringing in some.
I think this is missing the point. If you would tie the presentation of the mechanics to the calculation of the mechanics, I wouldn't be complaining. As a player, it is more important to know what the mechanic is than whether it is balanced or not. If I knew that buying promethion wouldn't affect my growth, I wouldn't waste my credits trying. But instead you refuse to present information on the mechanics to the player and make us constantly play these guessing games.
When I watched Explorminate's video this week, I was more appalled that he was completely in the dark about how Onyx Hive worked than I was that the "battle viewer" was completely busted. Since he is a very experienced 4X game player, I expected him to pick up on things I missed and play Onyx better than I did. The fact that he can't figure this game out either should tell you how far away you are from having a real game.
Amen, slarjy!!!

Yeah, I think that's fair. I'll add some tooltip information in 1.05 to explain exactly how it works.
I actually figured it out while playing. The bonus is applied directly to the Onyx citizens themselves. It just is not obvious at all unless you check every few turns as your Promethean supply grows. It seems to be about 0.001 per Promethean unit.
It was a base of 0.4 plus 0.002 per Prometion. But I'm changing it to 0.4 plue 0.006 per Promethion in 1.05. The tooltip will also explain exactly how it works.
I had known about the promethium growth rate, but I had to carefully observe the pop growth rate to really see what the numbers were actually doing. As brigadier said, it’s not clear at all where the numbers are or what’s happening.
The fact that they can still build agriculture districts is also kind of confusing since the synthetic races can’t, I was a bit surprised that they could still build farms.
Yes, that is more clear in the 1.05 update.
And yes, I left their ability to grow agricultural districts since without ample promethion their growth strategy is going to be to adopt Carbon based citizens, who they will have to feed.
