Hello.
When does version 1.2 come out, will it incorporate "Combine taskbar buttons, never. Since Windows 11 does not have that function? When is this version estimated to come out?
Thank you.
Just upgraded my Start8 license to Start11 and have some issues With Start11, Windows 10 Style:1. White dot in bottom-right corner of Taskbar's context menu and Shutdown menu.2. Can't remove the Start Menu's left/bottom paddings. I expect the menu to be part of the taskbar as in Windows 10.
3. Centering the icons in the Taskbar, replaces the custom Start Orb with the Windows 11 default one (I like mine on the left, but is worth mentioning it for other people).4. Start Menu's context menu freezes for 2-5 seconds when hovering or selection options.5. The gray hovered background of the Start Menu's tiles doesn't match the one from the left sidebar apps list.6. No option to replace the apps/tiles hovered background color or to select "Use Windows Accent Color" at least.7. Start Menu's context menu is black and not transparent like the Start Menu's background, or the desktop's context menu.8. Start Menu tiles with "Use Windows 11 menu style icons" enabled, have their names with elipsis instead of just wrapping to the next line.
Then, with "Use Windows 11 menu style icons" disabled, the names are fully displayed, but new issues come up: a. Some of the tiles icons are not centered. b. The names are not centered. c. When hovering the tiles, instead of having the same filled rectangle than in the apps sidebar or the Start Menu Context Menu, it has only an outline. No consistency.FEATURE REQUEST:1. Ungrouping Taskbar's wifi/battery/sound icons.
Start 11 v.1.11 running on Windows 11 on a Surface Pro 7 (display resolution 2736x1824, scale 200%, as recommended)
I've positioned the taskbar at the top of the screen and had been getting it dropping down the screen by about half its (the taskbar) height. This hasn't yet happened with the Start 11 version 1.11, so hopefully, it's fixed, but other problems remain.
These remaining problems are described below:
1. When the taskbar icon mouseover labels popup, they obscure all but the top of the parent icon and do nothing when clicked on, which makes it almost impossible to launch the item when its label is displayed. See the example image:
The solution would be to make clicking on the mouseover label launch the app, or alternatively to display the label fully below the app icon so it doesn't prevent clicking on it. Ideally, both options would be nice.
2. The mouseover thumbnails for the 'desktops' taskbar icon still appear at the bottom of the screen, instead of the top, so by the time you've moved the mouse from the taskbar icon to select a screen thumbnail at the bottom of the screen, the thumbnail has disappeared. The solution is to display them immediately below the 'desktops' taskbar icon.
3. Finally, the tops of the mouseover window thumbnails are hidden behind the taskbar, obscuring their captions. See example image:
The solution would be to display them further down so their captions are not obscured.
Is your taskbar set to auto hide?
I ask as the desktop icons seem to be under the taskbar, thats why everything is incorrectly offset.
Yes, it is set to auto-hide. But I don't see why that means it will hide its own drop-down thumbnail captions. That doesn't happen with Windows 10 - I have Start 11 v.1.11 running on a Windows 10 PC to compare.
I'm also still getting the bug where the taskbar displays a little way down the screen, and instead of auto-hiding, the icons disappear. They reappear on mouseover:
When auto-hide kicks in:
However, if I disable 'auto-hide', the thumbnail dropdowns are also offset, leaving a gap between the taskbar and the dropdowns:
This doesn't happen with Windows 10, where all the taskbar dropdowns and icon mouseover labels are all displayed touching but not overlapping the lower edge of the taskbar. It's as if the offset has been applied to the dropdowns when auto-hide is disabled instead of when it's enabled...
These bugs are a causality of new code Microsoft implemented in their last update that broke the way the taskbar behaved when placed on the top of the screen. I am pretty sure the new code was put in to make way for Microsoft big update this year.
The good news is that no new new bugs have been found in Microsoft's big update which is currently available in the DEV preview.
When I installed the latest Dev build of Win 11 build 257 everything was working fine until I upgraded Start 11 to the latest version 1.11. Since then I have been unable to get the weather widget to work again. I get the widgets icon on the left of the taskbar but it will not change to the weather information. When I create a new account admin or regular the weather works. Does anyone know what caused this behaviour. There are apparently many people out there that have this issue with the weather widget. I don't know why it only happened after Start 11 was upgraded but I stopped the upgrade on my other computer and the weather widget remains functional.
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, appear working on my latest Windows 11 V21H2 (OS Build 22000.493) and Start11 1.11 as shown on the screenshot below. Can you post what you seeing on your system.
Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
This is my screeenshot. Notice the widget icon is still just a block not the actual wather info. It worked until I upgraded Start 11 to 1.11.
Basj. Your screen shot shows your widget icon as part of the taskbar not to the left side as it should be....see my screen shot. It is supposed to change to a cloud in the position yours is or a cloud with the current temperature when positioned where MS has said it would be after the update to windows 22000.257. I see you are not on the release level so the icon is beside the start button and will not change to the cloud until you update to the new DEV release 257
Ron,
I can not say I can fully answer why the weather app is not working but thought I would share my experience with build 257.
I found the build to be both an amazing build with a lot of good improvements and also very delicate and easy to break. In fact, with my experience I actually had several programs which previously worked that stop working altogether. I also had several ui elements in explorer and other areas quit working randomly and had to be restarted. I do know this build was delayed 2 weeks because the developers have struggled to get this release stable on the timeline it was supposed to be released. In my opinion, this build just is not yet done cooking so to speak.
I reluctantly rolled back this build but am eagerly awaiting updates to make this build more stable. As far as the weather app is concerned it is hard to pinpoint who is to blaime, but based on the comments I am seeing I want to lean towards Microsoft on this one.
I'm running Start11 version 1.11 on Windows 10, up to the previous version this issue wasn't happening but as of this version the start button and pinned/running apps are only being centred on my first two monitors, monitor 3 they stay left. I've tried toggling various settings without any change. Not a big deal but I've gotten used to them being centred, it'd be nice to have it back there on all 3 displays.
EDIT - unsure what changed but it's working again, disregard for now.
Sorry, I misunderstood you. I though you was talking about the Widget itself. Not the Widget icon. Yes the icon, is not showing the current conditions.
I wonder if you guys have try this : https://forums.stardock.com/510483? And see if it get it working again.
Thank you,
Basj,Stardock Community Assistant
Any issues with the MS weather gadget not updating would need to be reported to Microsoft as Start11 will have no impact on that at all.
Lots of people with this issue so it is probably not caused by Start 11. It has been reported to MS but no solutions are forthcoming. There are other pieces of software similar to start 11 out there and people are reporting the weather issue to those developers as well. It is interesting to me that creating a new user account on the same computer will work. It is just a pain to move everything to a new account to fix a minor thing like the weather icon. I have been hunting through the users registry settings to see if there is anything glaringly different between a new account and my old one, so far no joy.
Not sure if mentioned before but Why can't we drag shortcuts from the Start Menu directly to the Desktop? If not possible, is there a workaround?
All indications seem to show that never combined taskbar buttons are indeed included. It also seems that it is on the home stretch of its beta release.
So , some items on the apps list display as expected when set to the Modern Style . That is I have everything set to NOT mark new apps. And nothing is marked as such on the Modern Style. But if I switch to 10 or 11 style , they both have the same apps marked as "New". And ifI go to the Windows 11 original start menu , they are NOT marked there , which, again , is what I would expect them not to be since I have all boxes checked to not show new items .
It's kind of confounding , it is Bitwarden , File Explorer , Intel Driver and Support Assistant , and Microsoft Edge ( there are others , but I am doing a clean install so these are the only ones I have on hand at this time. ) I had hoped that doing a clean install would fix it , but no.

Just wanted to make sure this gets seen
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. From reading around, I remember the Dev did mentioned that the new install item will be remove automatically after two days.

Windows version: Windows 10 Home - 21H2 (19044.1566)
Start11 version 1.11 - Windows 10 style used
Quick summary:
Start11 is syncing with Windows 10 start menu and ungrouping various shortcuts I've already pinned to Start11. A new column shows up filled with various applications from Windows 10 start menu. After some time, the newly created synced icons will disappear, along with the new group it created, leaving a blank icon called "My PC" that doesn't do anything when clicked on. Uninstall - deactivation - cleanup batch script from forums - reinstall - reactivation same issue. Solution/workaround: Adding NoSyncPins (value: 1) to registry under Start8\Start8.ini\Start8 seems to have stopped this behavior from continuing. A rollback of the sync feature may be needed if others experience this, or an option to disable sync in Start11's configuration could be warranted, given that user's shortcuts can disappear and their experience with the product and reputation could be in jeopardy.
Detailed sequence of events / troubleshooting:
So been using 1.11 since it came out without issue at all. Yesterday I went back to Windows 10 start menu to quickly launch a shortcut I didn't have time to put on Start11. While waiting for the app to launch, I deleted a tile from the Windows 10 start menu. After some time, pulled up Start11 only to find that a TON of shortcuts were missing from it, in various places - various groupings & various folder groups.
So, I began to search for icons and pin them to Start11 again. I had to jump over to the Windows 10 start menu a few times to see what I was missing and I expanded a folder group there to look inside. When I pulled up Start11, suddenly a new column started populating with ALL the MISSING shortcuts from before (even removing the ones I'd just began adding from their groupings/folder groups!)
Frustrated, I began to move these icons in the new column where they were supposed to go. I had to switch back and look at the Windows 10 menu for this a few times. Suddenly Start11 removed all the icons from the column it had added along WITH the icons I'd started to drag and drop into various groups/folder groups.
Frustrated, I deactivated and uninstalled Start11, and reinstalled/reactivated. The import brought only a few folders and groups over, so I began filling out the missing icons (again using the Windows 10 start menu as reference). When suddenly, the exact same behavior happened: a new column with a ton of icons suddenly populated. So, I did a complete wipe (using a batch file I found here) to get rid of everything Start11 and reinstalled. Again the same behavior started to show! The only thing I can see in that column/new group that's created is a blank icon called "My PC" which does nothing when you click on it. You can only delete it.
Solution/workaround:
I went onto the forum and found this:
Due to user confusion we now sync pins from the OS with the Win10 and 11 style menus. We do not sync a pin using Pin to Start11 to the OS however, only pins and unpins from the OS menu. That said unpinning from Win10/11 menu will unpin from the OS as otherwise you wouldn't be able to repin using the OS options.
On Windows 11 the search offers pin to Start with no ability for it to be extended by us to offer pin to Start 11 hence this solution.
If you do not want this behaviour you can disable it with a registry key and then signing out and in again.
You would create a REG_SZ value with the value of "1" called NoSyncPins at this location HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Start8
From <https://forums.stardock.com/509528/the-windows-10-native-pin-to-start-pins-apps-in-start11-is-it-a-bug-or-a-fe>
So I added the key and it APPEARS (only been half a day thus far) to have solved the issue. Whatever process Start11 is doing to monitor and link the start menu from Windows 10 is causing some very bizarre and frustrating behavior. It may be better to walk this change back until thoroughly tested in betas OR give an option for users to "unlink" which sets the registry NoSyncPins as shown above. I, for one, don't want Windows 10 start menu to be watched by Start11. I'm perfectly fine - and I think most users of this app - are okay with "Pin to Start11" showing up in context menus without confusion.
I guess I'll have to try and download this on Monday, but if it's not appreciably changed from the last Beta then the Windows 10 centering issue is still in existence.
Any idea why this happens? And why killing explorer.exe seems to fix it (for that cycle). I don't want to be in the habit of manually having to reboot my shell every time I turn on the PC to get this working right...
Request: The ability to add shortcuts from shell:appsfolder to the shortcut list. Currently, have to manually create a shortcut for an app, and then add link the newly created shortcut. However, these shortcuts lose their icons whenever the app with the manually created shortcut is updated.
Have to manually create shortcuts for "Calculator" and "Microsoft Store" to add here:
Icons get lost after Calculator or Microsoft Store get updates here:
Search in Start11 doesn't show Control Panel Items (specifically the "Create a Restore Point" entry)
Windows 11 Pro 21H2.
Hi, I noticed that the Create a Restore Point Entry doesn't show on Start11's search box, but it does in Windows native Search.
I think this suggest that most Classic Control Panel Items do not show either.
For now as a workaround I disabled search in the app, and I'm using windows 11 search instead.
Thanks for taking a look into this.
Max.
