After updating windows which came through an hour ago, Start 11 does not work anymore. it does not override the start menu and taskbar.
Uninstall, REBOOT, reinstall.
Yikes. That is the latest DEV build, I stopped that channel a few months ago. Hopefully Neils method works, I would hate to see MS screwing around with their code.
Still does not work. I opted to delete settings as well, and did a reboot after installation also.
when i right click the taskbar the menu is not showing. just the default one.
when i try the switches of blur and automatic colour in the start 11 taskbar section, i see the taskbar change.
I can also put the start menu left or centre.
Does winkey open the start11 menu?
I am curious if this issue is able to be reproduced as I do not have the DEV build. I would double check your settings just in case, ie see if the "use the start11 start menu" slider accidentally got switched to off.
I am sure if this problem is reproduced then your best bet will be a system restore to before you did the update and wait until there is a fix before you update again.
Also are you using something like explorer patcher?
Is the Start11 service running \ set to automatic?
If not, and you start it, log out\in, does it work then?
If not, and you reboot, does it work then?
If not, is the service still 'running' and 'automatic'?

You probably nailed it. That is exactly what explorer patcher does when Windows DEV is updated. The DEV channel is not compatible with explorer patcher and breaks more then not.
And exactly why we did not go with their approach to solving it.
Same problem here. After installing new dev build 22533 Start11 no longer works correctly. I am not using explorer patcher and the service is set to automatic and running.
If I use the win key on the keyboard, then Start11 comes up, but not if I click the start button.
I did find that if I use a custom start button (doesn't matter which one), then the start button of Start11 will work, but the right click taskbar menu still doesn't work.
Let me know if there's any other info you need or if there's anything you want me to test.

Everyone is looking forward to the new taskbar features in start 11 v1.2 and it will probably become the preferred approach ... The waiting game is the hard part though.
It may well be a bug in that particular build of Windows as those two features share a common thing and I can well see Microsoft breaking something but it may be something else which we will investigate.
One of the risks of using bleeding edge Windows updates.
Thanks for the update. It's working good enough for now (I hate the win11 start menu/taskbar. Thank God for Start11).
Hi all,
Same issue here since upgraded to 22533 but I'm not using explorer patcher. The Start11 service is running, tried to restart service, uninstall/reboot/reinstall but with no luck.
I also noticed two things:
Will wait the v1.2 update to see if it help !
Nicolas.
Will wait the v1.2 update to see if it help !Nicolas.
The second point there is very interesting as it suggests Start11 believes you are on Windows 10.
The worst part about all of this is that everything that is in Windows 11 DEV builds are not even guaranteed to make there way into Windows 11 Release. It all sounds like a huge headache
All same for me. Latest DEV build and no explorer changes. Service is running. If I set the button to the left from the centre, it works and works with win key
Same situation as everyone else here and yes moving the Start button to the left works but only if you click on the left side of the button...even past it all the way to the edge of the screen. Could be worse.
Yes! pressing the winkey opens the start 11 menu.
No

tried that, same result unfortunately.
Nice find! that is the same case here!
For me, start 11 works normally, but with the last dev build you can't move the taskbar to the top position.
Same results here. If I use the WIN Key, the Windows 10 menu (selected and customized in Start 11) comes up.
But if I use the START Key, the Windows 11 menu appears regardless of the settings in Start 11.
It's broken for me as well. It IS showing as RUNNING and set to AUTOMATIC in the Services.msc list. As other mentioned, the Windows KEY activates Start11, but the Windows ICON does not. I primarily use my Surface Pro WITHOUT the keyboard attached, so this is a huge problem for me.
We have an internal fix for it and working out when it will be released.
Thanks for all the feedback.
Nice! Thanks for letting us know, and also thanks for the work!
