I have bought Start11, Why I can only activate one device but not for five devices ?
I have ever bought Fences, Curtains , WindowFX , each of them can activate 5 devices max.
The 1 device per PC EULA is being used with the Start11 release. You can purchase additional licenses and we'll also have some other packages available soon.
The 5 activations for other software in the past will not be affected if you already own them.
That was not really communicated, was it? Like propely?
I have quite a few products and always expect to be able to activate on desktop and notebook.Since you can activate EVERY single other product in your line-up up to five times it's expected by customers to be able to activate Start11 the same number of times, isn't it? You're really obfuscating the fact here.Adding a line in the EULA is the american way, I'm sure, but it's really consumer hostile. By design I'm sure.
Turning to evil, are you? Thanks for letting us know.
If this is the way forward I have bought my last Stardock software., unfortunately.
It's cheap and the lack of communication BEFORE purchase is troublesome and a bit annoying actually.
Exactly the same issue here. have pretty much every piece of Stardock software and use them on the main PC, Laptop, and my backup PC. Then they pull a stunt like this with the Start11 release and expect you to purchase multiple licenses but keep very quiet about it. Will be looking at alternatives from now on.
I do feel the overall price tag is fair here, especially since star dock is committed to continuing development particularly into the taskbar. I would rather the price increase to develop more then for the price to stay the same and no more development be done at all.
For the issue at hand, I do think there is a simple fix here.. For people that purchase the 1 license option, they should be allowed a 6 dollar discount to upgrade to the 5 license option if they find they want that option instead.
The issue is not the price.
The issue is the obfuscation and deliberate hiding of the fact that licensing changed.
They have a dozen other products that work one way, suddenly an updated beta product changes licensing model. That should be communicated so that new and existing customers get a choice and are informed.
You realize that this is - at minimum - a 100% price increase? At worst a 500% increase.
I know there was a massive uproar when they tried to do this a couple of years ago. You'd think they'd learn, huh?
Fix the bugs in Feences 3 instead of churning out half-baked betas at massively inflated prices, mmkay?
I'd like to point out that when I bought this there was not "multi-device" choice in the purchase menu.
You think you've got it hard, I ordered the product and never got it. I've created two tickets and they never responded.
If it still unresolved, can you post your ticket number here so I can forward it to Support.
Thank you.

This is really shady. I've choosed to upgrade my previous license which was up to 5 activations but got 1 instead without any warning. So I've sent a ticket about it and there was nice message that I'd get confirmation of my ticket on email. I received none and so far no one has reached me. Nice support software you got here. I'm not up to writing same message X times cause something is wrong on your side. Just came here to disapprove what you guys did. There should be huge notice that "UPGRADE" is not an upgrade but just discount on 1 Start11 license for having previous version. I fully understand what you wanted to achieve but how you handled it is just wrong.

Thanks, Basj
I have forward your problem to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

I have responded to your ticket.
I am also very annoyed about this. I have also bought Groupy earlier this year and installed it on 3 PCs without any issue. I started having a problem installing it on a second computer. Had to Google it to find out that this is a 1 licence purchase. NOWHERE was it stated, not enough on the invoice!!!
As above, price is not the issue, but it is indeed a very shady way to operate. This was my last Stardock purchase.
I feel that Stardock should give 5 licences to people who bought it, and update the wording on their website / invoice about the fact that this is a 1 licence thing.
I am not pleased at all about this. I will not purchase another licence out of principle, and will not recommend Stardock anymore unless they make things right.
Actually Stardock have changed The EULA for years on "1pc per license" as mentioned here : https://forums.stardock.com/486311/accounts-and-activation-support-faq#pcinstalls. It is not a new things. Only recently, Stardock decided to enforce it, on new products such as Start11. Stardock actually giving away 4 free activation for those other products.
Thank you,
You mean to tell me we are actually supposed to read those things, I always thought they were just there to quickly scroll past to install my software. Thank goodness it didn't ask for my first born because I would have totally missed that as well.
When purchasing, nowhere does it states "for 1 machine only".
OK, it stated in the middle of your EULA, that - let's face it - no one reads. I bought Groupy, and have it on all my PCs.
I think it is very shady to hide such an important fact in the middle of your T&C, when it should trully be displayed clearly somewhere, even on the invoice you send after purchase!
Very shady practice indeed.
I guess you miss this than?
well, that wasn't displayed when I bought it.
I guess it is fine now that it is displayed.
That is a start 11 purchase not Groupy, lol. Or is he upset over start 11 on one device? Hopefully Groupy still runs 5 licenses since it is older, I do understand the newer software such as start11 and Fences4 though
Note, Beta testers were never given the option to purchase 5 licenses. That is where the issue is.
You're correct - it wasn't displayed. Few days ago here button "Upgrade" just asked you for email if you were eligible for discounted upgrade. Then you got "Great, you qualify..." popup and you were moved to payment part. That's it.
Someone has changed it and now "Upgrade" button moves you to download section where it states that's just 1 license. But claiming that you missed that is wrong. You didn't cause you couldn't.
I have a desktop and a laptop, each running numerous Stardock programs.I just went to upgrade to Fences 4 only to see SINGLE activation and FIVE activations. I've just read the Software EULA.Slightly poorly thought-through policy for the average user.
I wont be upgrading. The new pricing/activation schedule doesn't work for me.Quite simply, daft.
basj is just trolling.
He should know that if you buy an UPGRADE of an existing licens that page is never shown.
I have a 5 activation Start10 licens that I upgraded through the given process and I was rewarded with a 1 activation license. And this cost was equal to the other 5 actiaction products that I have and have had for many, many years.
If you, as a community assistant, fail to recognize the difference between an EULA for new customers and/or products and the requirement to inform existing customers in an upgrade process that they not nly will be using a new EULA .. they will also lose licenses/activations ..
Welll ..
The new EULA with 1 activation didn't really go down well with the communjity, did it? There's a tangible reason the 5 activation "norm" was kept for existing customers and products.
But bait and switch is not a proper way of handling existing customers that wish to keep supporting your producs, is it?
The software offered by Stardock is NON ESSENTIAL. It's a NICE TO HAVE.No-one is going to purchase the software for their laptop and NOT use it on their other laptop/desktop.Either you see the value in the software or you don't.Let me help Stardock understand one thing.Loyal paying customers ARE ESSENTIAL.In a world where customer care matters....a world where customers demand value for money [and it's going to get tougher] - I'm impressed that Stardock have decided that paying customers with two devices need to:A: pay twiceB: buy a license for 5 devices.C: make sure only one device is switched ON.I would love to have attended the meeting when this idea was discussed.Yet another example of a business completely unable to think beyond their balance sheet.Sorry, Stardock.Email me when you've realised what the customer needs and expects.Until then. I will allow my current portfolio of Stardock products to run out as the operating systems develop. My money remains in my bank account, just as Stardock's consideration for their paying customers remained in that fruitfuless policy meeting.RgdsAndy
Glad to see that a lot of people feel as I do.
Shady practice, hidden terms (well displayed in the EULA no one ever reads)... This was my last purchase of Stardock's products. Until things are made right. I feel lied to, and my trust in your company is now shattered. I was contemplated the fences software, well, that ain't gonna happen.
Wait.... what....
I bought the 5 active installs license. Thought I could install it on my Desktop and Laptop with that option. Feeling ripped off.
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, I am not clear on the issue. If you have purchase the 5 active installs. You should be able to activate 5 individual systems.
