W11. Start 11 search is on. Option to use old Start 10 Style search is on. Search example, Excel. Results:Duplicates under Programs, with one odd icon. Excel also listed under Files and folders?! The fourth item is actually an Outlook e-mail. Clicking on it gives an error:Main issue here is duplicate results and incorrect icons.
Just recently installed the latest version of Start11 on my desktop. Win11 22000.194.
Everything was good until I realized that my separate profile shortcuts for Microsoft Edge do not pin properly. I have 2 shortcuts in a "Browsers" folder in the Start Menu. One is my default profile which is for personal use, the other is my work profile. Both have --profile-directory flags in the target for the shortcut pointing to the individual profile folders.
However, when I pin them, one of them is just a plain msedge shortcut and the other is the last shortcut I pinned. If I open up my "Work" profile, it opens. If I then open the "Personal" one, it opens my Work one instead because the generic msedge shortcut is just using whatever profile I used last.
Start11 has to differentiate between shortcuts and pin them as they are instead of just pinning generic shortcuts to the programs. Basically, just put whatever my shortcut is on the pinned items list.
DPI scaling issue —
Hi,
great job and better than the original. But some issues with touchscreens. It's nearly impossinle to scroll the menu by touch. You move the icons.
Regards, Joern
Hello,
Just installed 0.90 for the first time (never had a previous version installed).
Most items work for me, however when I add multiple apps to the "Start11 Start menu", and then try to re-organize the icons, they randomly jump around. Almost like my mouse isn't maintaining a "click".
For example, I dragged the Paint.net to where the file explorer is, and let go, and it ended up like that. Prior to that I attempted to put the icons in a completely different order, but it gets jumbled up very easily. Not sure why its happening.
Minor feature idea: If someone has fences (me), offer to "split" up the start menu icons using fences? (I like my icons grouped by work type).
There is a known issue with the rearranging of the Win11 menu where it may get upset about reordering once you have reordered things more than a certain amount.
I am pleased to say this is resolved for an update this week.
We are aware of an issue with dragging with touch as the dragging of the icons interferes with this.
We have made changes to this for an update later this week which should allow you to scroll when needed but also rearrange things using a a hold and then drag action.
Hi, dont know if someone realized that the "W" is missing when navigating with Letters is used... (yes i have some Programms starting with a "W" installed (Weather, Word, Whatsapp, Windows....apps)
The next thing to mention is, i am using a 58" Monitor with 4k ressolution and 300% Scaling. After a fresh Windows 11 install, the start 11 (set to Windows 10 Startmenu style) was to high to reach the hole first line or resize it. I had to lower my Scaling to 200% --> resize the startmenu to 2/3 of monitor height --> set scale back to 300% --> resize the menu again to max it out.
Another thing i realised using my Notebook (Dell Inspiron 7706 2 in 1) is: Touch isnt working with Start11, appart from tapping Items to start them. With the original Windows 10 or Windows 11 Menu i was able to Scroll with one finger, but not at the Start11 Menus at all. (one Finger tab -> hold -> scroll)
and last but not least, Missing Features:
- Windows 10 had live titles, very usefull with calender, weather, notes, messangers etc...
- Windows 10 had tile subfolders, kind of Submenu for titles, best for organizing all the office stuff etc...
I know, i have missed somehting for the moment.... but....
Thats all for now! Thx for reading!
Seem to have an issue since moving from 0.55 to 0.9. When selecting start menu from the start11 icon, the menu opens and closes very quickly - if you move the mouse from the strt icon to the menu, then the menu closes - seems like you need to hover over the start icon to preven this happening.
Quoting Neil Banfield, reply 96That looks like the app may have remembered the coordinates it was located at last time and opted to reposition itself there via absolute coordinates vs workspace coordinates. In which case it would happen regardless of Win10 or 11 if there is a taskbar at the top.Whilst Start11 does use the registry option, it also has additional code to workaround some issues of that as that registry option is unusable once you run more than one app. We do however make it clear in the UI that there may be unexpected behaviour. Nope, no matter where you relocate the app and then close, or resize it etc., it reappears at the 0px position. Because of the registry hack that moves the taskbar, none of the apps know that the 1st 32-72px or so are occupied by the taskbar. If you would like to reproduce the issue, that pic was 1080p using Fences + Start11. So far, setting the taskbar to auto-hide is the only actual workaround for this.

I still cannot turn on the "search" option of start 11. When I do, Windows Explorer cpu usage spike, the computer becomes sluggish, and the taskbar actually disappear/reappear/disappear/reappear.
If I turn it off and stay with the default search, all is fine.
Windows 11 Pro up to date. Latest Beta for Start 11. Enable a second monitor and my task bar stops working if more than one window is open in the shortcut.Example, Chrome is open and I have two separate pages open without being in the same window. If I minimize them or one, I cannot get it back by clicking the icon on the task bar, but ALT/TAB works to pull the window back. It is the same with all open items. As long as it is only a single thing open it can be minimized and brought back from the task bar. Loading Steam, I get Steam and I get their advertisement window pop up. If I minimize the two, it does not allow me to get back to them using the task bar because it is two under the same icon, but again, ALT/TAB will change the window on top bringing it back from minimized.
Is this instantly, or only after you perform a search?
During a search there will be higher cpu obviously.

Doing a search with the default windows search barely register on the cpu. and no impact on the computer.
Doing the same with Start11 search will make the mouse stutter on screen and looking at the cpu usage, it spike at 80% and stays there for 10-15 seconds. I have also seen the taskbar resetting, which usually mean explorer.exe crashed and was reinitialized by the os.
Here is a video that clearly shows the difference in cpu usage. We can't 'see' the mouse struggling to move on screen, but it's there. If I leave Start11 search activated, eventually the taskbar will start resetting.(disappear, reappear. Not showned in this video)

Huge Windows update last night to include several dozen of my apps. And I don't know if anyone noticed, and I don't know if this was added by Microsoft to Windows 11 or by installing Start 11 but when you right click on the taskbar you have the same options that were available with Windows 10. Most noticeably the addition of Task manager which is in my mind was one of the most important features that went missing when I first installed Windows 11. I can now remove my Task manager links in the start menu folder that I created.
Start11 certainly offers that feature so it may well be that as it is on by default. Easy way to tell, if it has a Configure Start11... link at the top then it is provided by Start11
A lot of the problems people are having with slow response and icons in the Start 11 menu not working properly I have not experienced. For the record my system is an Alienware X17 laptop with a dedicated RTX 3080 GPU and a 4K panel at 120 Hz. My lack of issues might have something to do with doing a clean install of the Windows 11 release candidate prior to installing the final release. Prior to that when I first installed Windows 11 it was from a Windows 10 upgrade and I did see a lot of faults. It was only after Microsoft released RC1 of Windows 11 that I did that as a clean install.
For some reason, on my secondary monitor, I can't get the taskbar to actually shrink to the small size. I've tried a number of combinations of attempts and nothing has worked yet. Happy to experiment and provide more info if needed.
I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet (I can't find a way to search a specific thread). If you click App apps mouse scrolling doesn't work. I can only use the slider on the right side of the menu.
Good afternoon, then sorry for my English, I have 3 BUGS, 1- when giving several CLICK LEFT the ORIGINAL menu returns, 2- in the cover photo it is a little cropped, 3- FALSE CLICK I am in BETA 0.90 with OS Windows 11 ( 22000,258)
Any chance of getting the time and date on the right-hand side of the taskbar on a second monitor?
I too wish to see this functionality added. I like the Windows 10 Start menu but never use the pinned apps.
It doesn't seem this issue (if it is in fact an issue) has been addressed. Will future releases of Start11 allow one to collapse the Start menu if there are no pinned groups or pages?
Hey all, great product so far thanks with lots of great potential. One bug that's, erm, bugging me...
I've got mine set to Windows 11 style as I just want a list of pinned apps and not that recommended nonsense that Microsoft put at the bottom. The issue though is that Discord will not pin correctly to the Start11 start menu. It seems to get pinned as a weird generic app icon.
Additionally to the above, the username shown at the bottom left seems to show the profile folder name. I use a Microsoft Account for login. Can this please show either my full Microsoft account name, or my account email address please? The truncated name used for my c:\users\... folder is just weird.
In other words, like this from the native Windows 11 start menu:not this from yours:
