With Windows 11 releasing in 3 weeks. I am hoping you have been playing and coding with the preview versions. Are you going to have a beta ready on release day for Windows 11 or sooner? I know Windows Blinds is pretty much DOA for Windows 11 but I am looking forward to curtains being released ASAP.
Hello,From what I read there is no announcement yet for Curtains on Windows 11.
ThanksBasj,Stardock Community Assistant.
I'm sure something is in the works and will be announced in due time. I have been running the Windows 11 betas for quite some time now and I'm impressed with the level of polish of the OS.
Stardock, when is work going to begin with Windows 11. Your team must have copies of Windows 11 already.
Are going to let my subscription expire before I can check for updates and find them all working properly on Windows 11?
Any updates? I see Frogboy has posted about WindowsBlinds 11 Planning and that is a long involved thread. He even mentioned how they released Curtains earlier this year and how it works. I love WindowsBlinds myself but stopped using it because of incompatibilities with Windows latest releases. I went with Curtains because it skins what I wanted skinned. Is there a development plan for a Curtains update you can share?
As what Brad post in here https://forums.stardock.com/502919/get;3820246. Its nothing yet on Curtains.
Thank you,
Basj,Stardock Community Assistant
Oh snapo just saw that. Curtains is DOA as well.... damn. No skinning for Windows 11 till 2023....
I think there will never be a version for Windows 11. A few years ago, Interacto (http://flavours.interacto.net/) encountered the same problem on MacOS with their Flavor application which never managed to work with the versions following to Yosemite...
10 euros thrown in the trash. I'm glad I didn't buy the whole Object Desktop suite !
FWIW Curtains (latest) is a bit off in just a few tiny areas in 11.Not worth not using it, I'm like everyone else I figured they were putting a more presentable version together for it. I have to say though 11 played nice with everyone but Start 10.... but I see the BETA is up for 11

Any updates here ?? I can't even install "Curtains" on Windows 11 and WindowBlinds seems quite off and incompatible. And what about the stardock subscription as a user we can't use either Curtains or WindowBlinds ?
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, Curtains and Windowblinds is not compatible with Windows 11. Please uninstall both from Windows 11. Curtains and Windowblinds still work on Windows 10.
So I feel like I am living in the twilight zone. I had win10 on my machine and installed the win11 pre-release candidate through windows insider. It upgraded all my software including curtains and it worked fine. I even went to wincustomize.com and downloaded curtains win11 specific skins that were working great.
I see an update for curtains and like a good boy I update. It installs but still says update. It bugs the hell out of me so i reboot and try again. Same issue. I figure ok fine I will uninstall and reinstall. I uninstall and whammo.... no curtains install in my object desktop launcher. I am like wtf... so I go into the options of the desktop launcher and select show incompatible apps and there it is.. curtains "NOT COMPATIBLE"...
So I come to the forum and find out that curtains doesn't work on win11 even though it had been working great on mine....
what in the literal thanksgiving is going on here?
Both Curtains AND Fences show "update" in Object Desktop ... no matter how many times you "install" and reboot.
yes my fences says the same. I should have left things be... lol oh well
Curtains does not work properly on Windows 11 and never has done.
On Windows 11 it would not apply custom shadows, custom frames (apart from universal apps), custom taskbar, custom start button and I think the explorer transparency option glitches too. It did apply light / dark mode, wallpaper and custom min/max/close buttons however and if you have Start11 then the start menu too.
Custom taskbar (background not buttons) and start button would work with Start11 installed but not without and thats due to Start11 doing the work, not Curtains.
I did notice some close/minimize/max buttons being invisible issues. didn't have start 11 installed at all just curtains/fences/deskscapes and the skins applied fine and worked good.
Maybe I have the unicorn system but i'm pissed I lost it.....
As I say they really didn't apply mostly. No taskbar skin, no frames (other than universal apps) etc. The colour scheme did apply so it may have been less obvious. The only reason for example the taskbar would skin is if you were running something which 'restores' the Windows 10 taskbar. Then it might skin the taskbar.
Curtains 1.x has not worked with even a single build of Windows 11 properly and never will do hence blocking installation to avoid customer confusion and bug reports. It was designed for Windows 10 where it continues to work correctly.
You may be able to find an older 1.19 installer if you wish to keep using what you were using.
Going to miss Stardock products.Installed WindowBlinds back in the day of the swimming goldfish theme.
In hopes....
Yeah I am thinking of not renewing my object desktop and Uninstalling all Stardock myself....
Windows 11 is only 3 months old. How many programs can really be expected already?
paying for a stardock subscription for products you can't even use (main reason you got the sub...) is pretty unsatisfactory. Windows 11 had beta for a long time and only a couple of companies seem to not be updating their code to work. It is one thing if you buy the software and the developer didn't plan on it or is late to the game but charging subs for software that doesn't work is pretty bad business.
Windows 11 was not in Beta for very long though..MS did most the work already when they where trying to build a lightweight OS in an attempt to compete with google. Therefore, Windows 11 kind of flew through Beta pretty fast. Realistically, Windows 11 left Beta way to fast, it wasnt finished. Thank goodness stardock isnt doing that with start 11
As for the subscription. It is a year long and Stardock will be releasing a whole lot of stuff in that time. That is why it is a subscription service and not just an app bundle. As a bonus you also get all previously released content.
Curtains, Window Blinds, Tiles 2 all non-functional. What have the Stardock devs been up to while many other software houses prepared for Win 11? Microsoft hardly kept it a secret, and the testing versions have been out for many months. Not sure what I am paying for now.
Tiles 2 should work fine on Windows 11.
Only Start10 (which was replaced by Start11), WB and Curtains should not work.
WB due to a bug in the OS itself primarily and Curtains due to significant structural changes in the OS. Neither product have ever been sold as Windows 11 compatible.
Stardock have released updates to make Groupy more functional on Win11, Start11 and Fences 4 and other products will get updates during the year, though I cannot promise which apps and the time scales for any updates. Some apps may end up end of life.
Development is targeted towards the apps which sell better first as it makes sense.
The userbase on Win11 is still significantly smaller than Win10 by about 5-6 times.
Windows 11 was released not that long ago, patience is required if you are an early adopter and jump onto a new OS especially one with an absurdly short beta process.
