It seems, I am the only one who puts the taskbar to the left side of the desktop. Is this feature coming with Start11 soon? Would be really to be able to use the mostly unused horizontal desktop space again.
Another vote for the vertical taskbar, it doesn't make sense to me to have it on top or bottom on a monitor with a 21:9 aspect ratio. I bought Start11 today, assuming it would be a standard feature of a Start Menu and Taskbar Tool.
Would it be possible to get an indication if this feature will come for Start11?
Thanks
Neil Bannock implied a month ago (earlier in this thread) that it might be coming, but no indication of a timeline so far.
Just a heads up.
I'm using the latest version of Explorer Patcher (22000.348.39.1) with the latest Start11 Beta(1.01-j109) and they are working together seamlessly for me. This is on Windows 11 Build 22000.348.
I now have all the functionality of the Windows 10 taskbar on the LH side of the screen in Windows 11 (I dual boot 10 & 11)
Couldn't live without Start10/11, (here since Start8) and my taskbar has been on the LH side for years now. (ultrawide 3840x1600)
I REALLY hope that Stardock gets around to implementing this in a future build. As good as Explorer Patcher is, it would be really nice to have it supported all in the one package.
Thanks for your work guys. Love this product.
Thank you for this tip related to combining Explorer Patcher and Start11. Works like a charm and I get the best of Start11 + left side docking.
Hope I'm in the right place..can you run Start 10 and 11 together? Should I uninstall Start 10 before installing 11?
Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues.
10or 11 not both ,
Yes uninstall 10 and install 11

Thanks, AzDude. Merry Christmas.
Yeah, I'm specifically looking to move the taskbar to any position, on any of my screens, like Windows 10 could do. For me, it would be most convenient to move the taskbar to my secondary monitor, while keeping that as my secondary monitor, because full-screen applications do not automatically cover the Windows 11 taskbar.
Click and drag was so nice, man. If Stardock did that, it 100% would be a must-buy application for anyone using Windows 11. Don't get me wrong, it nearly is a must-buy anyway, and I did buy it, this is just a suggestion for how it could be even better.
I am also a taskbar to left guy and hope to see this implemented in Start11 in the near future.
I really don't understand why people think having it at the bottom of the screen is so optimal. It's just in the way and takes up valuable screen estate. Everyone these days uses wide screens.
Who the Heck is Neil Bannock
Yeah, yeah, Bannock, Banfield ... my fingers have brains all their own.
+1 for left taskbar
This is by far the most popular thread on the forum. But no sign of a moveable taskbar yet in version 1.1 or 1.11, or indication of it being included in 1.2. 😥
According to this, they are currently working on taskbar-related features, so fingers crossed that a movable taskbar is one of those 🤞
Also +1 for lateral taskbar.
For me this is a kind of criminal waste of screen space.
(and here's some details & rationales on it)In fact the screen orientation relies directly on the kind of activity you may have on your computer: If while watching videos, playing games or more seriously doing graphical works, a horizontal layout would clearly be preferred, I don't think this would be the case when dealing with textual documents, which tend to be rather narrow but longer and would require less width and more scrolling. This is why Microsoft is deeply wrong imposing a fixed taskbar layout in Windows 11, which can't evidently satisfy everyone. This is also why, you (Stardock), should take the point (like you already does for the Start Menu) and provide us a full-featured task bar with all the required bells & whistles we all need.
Stardock, are you listening to your paying customers? All the new features in Start 11 are nice, but useless without a vertical taskbar!
Also disappointed there's no ability to place this vertically.
Same bugs are still there like sound/power/network widget not showing 100% when placing the taskbar to the top of the screen.
The fact that clicking the taskbar anywhere but the icons opens the start panel is really annoying. I don't want the windows logo hard left either. It was fine where it was. It's too easy to accidentally click too high or low and open the start menu instead of the icon you want.
Does Explorer Patcher handle that better? Do I need to give up on Start11? It would be awfully nice to get some comment/commitment from Stardock, it has been total silence since November.
From memory Explorer Patcher basically reverts the task bar to exactly as it was in Windows 10 (more or less).
I like the Windows 11 taskbar pretty much exactly the way it is. I just want it on the left of my screen.
Yeah. There are some tool combinations (Explorer Patcher + TaskbarX etc) that kind of do that, but then you're messing with getting everything working together.
I'd really prefer Start11. But if Stardock is not going to do it, I'll find another way. Taskbar on the bottom is a non-starter.
I am happy to say that I have not needed to use explorerpatcher at all since start 11 integrated in "never combined tabs". I will say for the leftists out there explorerpatcher and start 11 have had 100 percent compatibility. I used this exact combo for months without any issue.
Also, start 11 beta still is being worked on and developed. More features are in fact coming. the left taskbar could still happen depending on how development goes and it's demand. I would stay tuned for the next releases.
I'm hoping so, but as you said, it partially depends on demand. So we have to keep this conversation going so Stardock know how much we want it.
seems sadly in the new win11 beta build the Start11+Explorer Patcher combo no longer works :<the enhanced windowed gaming feature vs left side taskbar is a difficult choice
*edit: I got it working, but had to play with the settings of both to get it to work properly
Please mention the competitor who does allow moving the task bar to the verticle position. I spent $50 to get this stupid Start11 software and it doesn't do THE ONE THING I NEED - a vertical taskbar. I don't want software that doesn't fit my needs. Either Start11 get's it right, or I need to find a different program that does. This is the single biggest failure of Microsoft in the company's history. Worse than Zune. Worse than WebTV. Worse than Windows mobile. Something has to be available to fix this, and if it's not Start11, start telling me who it is.
