Upgraded fences to the latest and now my desktop and icons are missing. Right mouse button and click "Enable Fences", but it does nothing. Tried rebooting but no joy.
Going to c:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Fences and running fences.exe says I'm on v3.1.0.5. I reactivated fences with my product key, but still I have a blank desktop...
They have rolled back to version 3.09.11 due to having some issues they trying to resolve in regards to version 3.10.
If you read the second reply here: https://forums.stardock.com/505007/page/1/#replies from sdRohan he explains it a bit more.
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. It is known issue. Please uninstalled Fences V3.1, reboot and reinstall older version, which you can download from your account : Please refer to this post : reply#2 : https://forums.stardock.com/505007/get;3806834
ThanksBasj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Same issue. Update to ver 3.1.0.5 caused Fences to stop working.
Error Message: Fences has detected that Explorer was not closed properly......to re-enable, right click.....etc.
Restarted Computer, re-enabled many times, nothing works.
HOW DO I ROLL BACK TO PREVIOUS VERSION?
Thank you, rolling back to previous version helped. @S2020D, see the link in basj post. Downloaded 3.09 and reinstalled, rebooted
Please follow the few steps I mentioned above and download v3.09 from your account.
Thank you,
Basj,Stardock Community Assistant
Hi all,
If you uninstall and reinstall the older, working, version can you still rebuild your fences from the old 'snapshots' or are they deleted too?
Thanks
Hello,
From what I know it does not delete your layout snapshot. Just to be sure you can use this guide to backup your snapshot : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#backupsnapshots.
After the automatic update my Desktop also was empty and "Enable Fences" via context menu didn't work.Restoring Fences form a previous date didn't work either. So i downloaded the installation file manually and startet the installation process *as administator* (without deinstalling the previous version)After installation finished and the requested reboot succeeded I GOT MY FENCES BACK on screen. This solved the issue for me.
That worked!
