If I purchase this through the Epic store will Stardock supply me with a Steam key when it is available on Steam? I have had several early access games with Epic and it been about evenly split between developers that do supply one (like Griftlands or Phoenix Point) and developers who do not (like Hades or Satisfactory). Thank you.
I see it as green.
There are more potential buyers in China and Europe then the US so go with a Chinese gaming platform.
I am sure there are other goodies in that decision but remember what make the world run.
If you want a steam key, wait for the game to be available on steam
GalCiv4 will be available on Steam when the full game releases next year. It's only an Epic "exclusive" while it's alpha/beta.
So why not do the same on Steam ??
That's a tired old argument. A Chinese company (I forgot their name) does own stock in Epic but does not have a controlling interest in the company.
I thought they did. My bad.
Man! Really wanted to be part of early access for this, but the freaking Epic curse strikes again. Oh well, just wait till next year I guess because I'm not buying it twice.
Is that known or suspected? I was surprised that, with Old World (from Mohawk Games), launching July 1, there is no indication that it will be available on STEAM at that time, nor, so far as I know, any date identified yet for it's availability on STEAM.
Does the existance of GalCiv IV mean Gal Cive 3 availability will disappear along with our digital bits to play the game because some 3rd party launcher decides it needs for sever space?
It could be that developers see EPIC as a perfect platform for Early Access, just because there are no user reviews. I have seen many times that users write rather unfair reviews for Early Access games. Steam is marking the reviews with an "Early Access" label but there is always the risk that those reviews damage the reputation of a game before it is even launched officially.
It's strictly a money thing because Epic takes a smaller cut. They just have to hope they didn't piss off too many potential buyers that won't touch the game because of the exclusivity with Epic. I'm really annoyed about this, but I'll probably still buy it when it comes to Steam.
I’m for one hope their will be a steam key when this game comes out, but if they pull I’m sure they will make a way to download three from the stardock store. I’m really sure stardock isn’t going to pull three, but I’m f the do it will be like when the GameStop store went down. You will probably able to download it from the stardock website. Please leave three on steam I have to many games there to have two stores. That is how I forget a password to an account. That is how I lost endless space, and the dungeon and dragrons anthology.
The lack of a steam page has me a little worried that this game won't be coming to Steam. Hopefully they just haven't gotten around to it. I didn't even know this game was coming out until today when I happened to think I haven't played GC3 in a while and happened to see it's been a year since any new dlc news.... Unless I am overlooking it I don't even see a announcement on steam for GC4(in news or on the forum).
If it's not coming to Steam so be it but I just stick with the one store to keep things simple for me and I am not worried about missing out. I still hope for the success of GC4 even if it's Epic Only.
GalCiv 3 isn't going anywhere and in fact we will continue to have updates.
I see a lot of people have valid points. As far as steam keys after you've purchased on Epic I believe would be great idea as Steam now days seems to be the favored front for gaming with communities in my neck of the woods. I have supported Stardock for many years and always will because the quality of games coming from them have always been awesome! So what ever they decide to do is perfectly fine with me. To play with friends who only use steam or for what ever reason they're not in epic we'll just use a voice program to communicate future gaming with Gat Civ 4.
I doubt they'd be generous enough to give out steam keys, but I'm pretty sure the game will come to Steam at some point. If you want it on Steam I'd check for discounts on GG.deals after it's out. The website will show where else it's available too.
PS I also don't get why people are so against Epic, but I guess it's their loss.
Why don't do it more simple ? Stardock sell us the game directly and when is Gold give us the option to have a Steam or Epic key to redime the license.
This way we will all happy and Stardocks have the money to fuel the work on GC4.
I'm willing to buy it now if I can have a Steam or GoG key on launch day, even if the alpha/beta is only on Epic (which I choose to not endorse for the exclusivities even if only timed) and then naturally too bad I will not test it nor give feedbacks/help on it.
One of the reasons they are using Epic and not including Steam is be cause they want to use these forums and Discord for discussions.
I don't follow your reasoning. While Steam offers some very basic forums on their platform, they also don't bar publishers from using their own forums and many do.
Steam has too many Douchebag Trolls. By doing it this way Stardock can limit comments to people who actually own and play the game.
That and people will complain even though this is Alpha. And complaints leads to bad Steam numbers = less sales
I've owned every version since GC on OS/2 and purchased in as a founder for GC3. I'd love to purchase the Alpha/Early Access on Epic but won't do so unless there is a guarantee of a Steam key. Otherwise I'm waiting until it's released on Steam.
