I have Fences installed on two different computers, both running Windows 10 Pro, 64 Bit. Within the past two days I installed the 21H1 update on both. Upon installation I found that on both computers, the taskbar flickers and all icons chosen to appear mysteriously disappear along with the "Show Hidden Icons" caret symbol. Intermittently the icons reappear and then disappear once again after a brief period. Changing graphics or display settings has no effect. As soon as Fences is disabled or the update is uninstalled, the problem is resolved. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
I also have this problem after a recent windows update. My version is I have the same problem after my PC update to Windows 10 21H1 19043.1023. I have Fences 3 and no other Stardock software installed. Its happening on multiple computers I have fences installed on.
HI Neal, here are my last updates:
And the additional Updates:
I have this issue as well (along with many others it would seem), and although I have the entire Object Desktop set installed, I've diagnosed the issue down to Fences by variously performing a system cleanup and uninstalling each Object Desktop program individually + restarting to see if the taskbar issue persists.
Sometimes, the bug will push the right-hand side icons on the taskbar so far to the right that they are clipped off the screen:
And sometimes, the bug will overlay other program icons on top of the existent taskbar icons (I'll post a screenshot of this when it happens again.)
The problem is, as others have said, solved by uninstalling Fences. The bug persists in both cases - when only Fences is installed, and when all other Object Desktop programs are installed.
I use Fences to create multiple different desktop "screens", I don't know if that has anything to do with what's causing the bug - I'll try to diagnose it later.
I'll add +1 to this problem, on a Dell XPS13 touch.
It was in need of a reset anyways, so I reinstalled WIN10 Pro, and Fences was one of the first apps to be re-installed, and all the icons on the tray were still either missing or all jumbled up after the install.
This does not happen on my desktop, perhaps the resolution?
The XPS is 3200x1800, and desktop is 1920x1200
Both are on 21H1
Thanks!
Yes, I had installed KB5003214 patch of windows 10.
and I only installed Fences
Hi, I also have a problem after the last Windows update: all my fences docks move to my secondary monitor (I have 2 monitors). Even though I move it back to my primary monitor, after shutting down and start the computer again, all the fences will move to my secondary monitor again.
I'm having 10 days trial with Fences version 3.09. My windows is 10 ProHope you can help,Thanks in advance
Hello,
This is more on issue with Fences with Taskbar. But, please check these guides for issues on Multimonitors on docks :

Thank you,

This might be a temp fix for Fences right click on the taskbar select News and Interests then click on show icon and text you should see the missing icons show up in the taskbar it works for me give it a go
I definitely, immediately, turned that off the second it showed up.
However, unfortunately, that seems to have fixed it, changed it to icon only and "open on hover" is unchecked.
We still need a fix for this, I do not want that junk on the taskbar.
Thanks for the tip!
I will add that I have 4 installs of Fences, and only the XPS-13 is doing this.
The others are lower res displays. - Two towers and an HP Laptop.
All of them had the "News and Interests" turned off, now only the XPS13 has it on.
I have a similar situation. System tray just disappears randomly. Toggling Fences produces random recovery.
It's this thing... Feature update to Windows 10, version 21H1.
HP Spectre 360X.
6th gen i7.
8GB
Same problems here on my laptop, plz fix it.
Windows 10 Pro 21H1 2021/5/25 19043.1023
Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.2020.0
Thanks
Thanks that helps for now until finally an update for Fences is available

It is unlikely a fix from Stardock could arrive as the issue is entirely one of Microsoft's own making due to the most recent preview patch you installed (KB5003214).
The problem is showing up around the internet on machines without Fences and we have customers reporting the same without Fences but with other Stardock products too. The trigger seems to vary but the end result is the same. It also seems to require non 100% dpi scaling in order to happen and for the news and interests taskbar area panel to be hidden.
We would encourage you to file a bug using the Microsoft Feedback hub so they are aware as the more reports, the more seriously they take these things.
I have reported the problem via MS Feedback Hub. However, I still think that the problem is very much related to Fences. As soon as Fences is deactivated in the autostart or completely uninstalled, everything works normally.
Given the very same issue with that patch is showing up without Fences installed it sounds more like something is being exposed by Fences being installed rather than being responsible for it directly.
There are reports of exactly the same with Stardock Groupy installed and it is an entirely different program with little in common with Fences and reports without any Stardock software at all on reddit.
This is a Microsoft end issue and they will need to fix it. For now uninstall that buggy preview update and you will be fine.

Thank you, yes i uninstalled 3.10 and installed 3.09. With the little workaround from user probesat in Post #34 for now all works fine without any bugs in the taskbar. Now i hope MS is fixing that issue Have a nice weekend
I have the same problem on an HP Spectre with win 10 pro. And like others, it does fix it self after re-adding the news and interest (after twice reinstalling fences and trying the 3.1 beta). Would have been nice if Stardock posted this issues to a support page or the FAQ they refer us to for Fences support on the Forum page.
As for it being a Microsoft issue....Microsoft, like other software is constantly evolving with new features and changes to old. Seems to me, that when MS pushes a change, it is up to companies like Stardock to adapt. MS is not going to remain static!
I really like Fences, but right now I am looking at alternative methods to organize my desktop.
I endorse comments of rs426. "As for it being a Microsoft issue....Microsoft, like other software is constantly evolving with new features and changes to old. Seems to me, that when MS pushes a change, it is up to companies like Stardock to adapt. MS is not going to remain static! "
It is hardly fair to expect Microsoft to cater for all the software utilities users adopt over the years. It would seem fair that companies like Stardock adapt their software to suit, or admit it cannot - "it's time to move on".
I have enjoyed Fences for many years, but I have now adapted to the Windows Start page for most purposes. However, I must admit I've reinstalled Fences 3.10 to regain access to various utilities I've come to rely on. With the "News and Interests" Taskbar icon shown, then turned off, all seems to be working properly again.
Asrs426 says: "I really like Fences, but right now I am looking at alternative methods to organize my desktop."
It seems to work fine unless you have "SCALE AND LAYOUT" > 100%
I have 4 instances of Fences, and 3 are working fine, as above, but my XPS 13 is very unhappy.
This is the only device that jumbles up the icons, and does not to this if I am forced to enable "News and Interests", which I do not want to see.
Once the above is turned off, all the icons are jumbled up. Turn back on, all good.
I think you have misunderstood something.
This is not an intentional change by Microsoft. It is s bug that can be seen without fences too on some systems.
This isn't about adapting to new features, this is about a bug in a preview patch from Microsoft. There are news articles about this bug in the patch!
Uninstall the buggy MS patch and wait is my personal advice.
Folks, actions have consequences, intended and unintended. The problem appears to be caused by a bug in a Microsoft preview patch. I think we need to put pressure on Microsoft rather than making unjustifiable negative comments about Stardock. The only impact of the negative comments for a problem that was not created by Stardock is to damage their reputation. I certainly don't want that to happen when they have no responsibility for the problem. Stardock has produced some excellent products at very reasonable prices. The last thing I want is the unintended consequence, the possibilitiy of companies like Stardock disappearing, leading to a situation where I have no alternative other than to use what Microsoft decides I need or want.
same issue, waiting for solution.
FYI - My XPS13, which was having issues, just got updated to 20H2, and the issue was not fixed.
