Hi
need some help, i've just downloaded GC3 from Epic games store and installed it, on the start it gives me this error and crashes.
is there something i can do?
Thanks
Hi,
The game attempts to create a folder in your user folder, e.g. C:\Users\hal\Documents\My Games\GC3Crusade. Reasons that it can fail:
1) No write permissions
2) User directory is on a removable drive
3) User directory is on a network drive
4) Lack of space
5) Anti-virus/security program. Add GalCiv3.exe to your whitelist.
Do any of these apply?
ookay, doin' some checks, meanwhile:
2) no, no removable drive
3) no
4) 50,1 GB avaliable, 12 should be the minimum for GC3, right?
5) addedd, but unfortunately still not going.
so my suspects goes for the cause n.1; how can i check it?
if i manually create the folder for the specified directory i could solve the problem?
Thanks for the assistance
That would possibly solve the problem, but when it tries to create the prefs.ini file there it may fail and cause other issues. If you right click on the My Games folder and choose properties, then Security, do you see your user name in the list of users? If not, you will need to add it and give yourself full access to that folder. If your name is there, select it and add full control over that folder to your user.
Similar problem, but only just shows a black window with the "app is not responding" feature
My config is more than adequate, Win 10 is up to date, Nvidia drivers are up to date, game was downloaded again, checked two times, folders have the default rights, but even with set to everyone does not work, running in admin mode does not work, default config xml rewritten to not fullscreen/1920x1080 does not work, creating the folder and the ini file does not work.
Is there a simple method to kickstart this POS engine to life, as i saw that this is a common problem even in Steam? The game looks promising, but if i have to manually insert all the directx dlls into system32... I will not play this game.
lookin to the autorizathion, seems that i had it, but to be sure i gave full control to all the users and confirmed it, but the problem seems to persist... (screenshot to double check)
any other possibilities?
Does it actually get as far as creating the debug.err file in your My Games\GC3Crusade directory, and if so, could you please attach it?
Where is your Documents folder set to? Usually My Games is in that folder, so it may be that it's having trouble finding your user folder, which is what your error description on the dialog suggests.
it is in C:
i have to move it in documents?
It does not even create the directory, and when I create it, it does nothing to it, no new file, no anything, no log file.
I was following your thread yesterday, had the same problem and I was hoping for a solution but it was like 11 PM in my country so I went to sleep
Today I found this: https://www.galciv3.com/article/486732/galactic-civilizations-iii-support-faq and solved this problem, just scroll down a little bit and there is a step-by-step solution. Care about letters size and folders' names bcs it didn't work out at first, I had to mess a little bit with the names.
I will check out this thread later if you need help.
Bye!
thanks for the info, gave a look at the link you posted, i can't find the part that i should follow to fix the problem, can you help me 'bout it?
You shouldn't have to move it, as if the game detects your documents folder, it should create a folder there named My Games unless there are issues with write permissions or one of the other issues that I mentioned in my first reply. I'm working on some code to try to fix this, or at least print out more debug information to the log file for an update.
Sorry bro I didn't have time yesterday. Here:
-'Environment Variable Missing Path'
If you recived the above in-game error', press the Windows and 'R' Key at the same time. A "Run" dialog box should appear, paste the line below and click OK:
systempropertiesadvanced
The "System Properties" menu should appear. Click the 'Environment Variable' button, and under 'System Variables' select the 'Path' entry and click 'Edit'. (Example: http://screencast.com/t/fpYioUMO)
What we believe may be missing for you is this segment (don't worry about comparing anything else of yours to the example posted above):
Win 7:C:\WINDOWS\system32:http://sd.stardock.com/sean/JingImages/2015-07-20_1138.png
Win10:%SystemRoot%\system32http://sd.stardock.com/sean/JingImages/2017-11-29_17-16-56.png
If the line above is missing, please add a 'New' line for Win10
For Win7, the full line, C:\WINDOWS\system32; ,to the very beginning of the data in the 'Variable Value' field. Example (not the whole long string, just C:\WINDOWS\system32;):
C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;c:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\iCLS Client\;c:\Program Files\Intel\iCLS Client\;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;C:\WINDOWS\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\
Click OK to save it, reboot your system, and try to run the game again.
That's copy+paste from link I've sent earlier. GL
Open EPIC LAUNCHER as Administrator
So, none of these solutions worked that anyone mentioned here, or I would not go for vivisectioning my functioning windows...
But after hunting for log files, and by a hunch, I started to close any apps that were running, and my culprit was found:"ASUS STRIX WIRELESS HEADSET" running on the tray.
Btw, this forums policy on limiting new members ability to post is a mistake.
I had the same problem and when I try to run the shortcut created by Epic, or by Epic Launcher my game just stop on start.
So I solved it just by running the GalCiv3.exe in C:\Epic Games\GalacticCivilizations3.
I hope this has helped you !
