Today the icons inside the fences became very spaced out. See attached image. The icons below the fence are about the spacing I was seeing prior to today. I also put the software versions below.
Screen resolution 1920x1080
Thanks for your help!
It will get 'looked at', not to be confused with 'changed'.

Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please refer to this thread : https://forums.stardock.com/504069

Not solved yet?
Are you using Fences 4 and still seeing it?
Fences 3 will not be receiving any more updates.
I've got this problem - but only some of my Fences (not all). Moving the Fence on the screen does nothing to change the spacing.
Here's another odd fact. Clicking on the fence title bar and then "View" gives a different menu for the widely spaced icon groups than for the normally spaced icon groups.
Widely spaced icons:
Normally spaced icons:
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. From your screenshot its look like those space out icons are of normal Fences while those other group is portal fences.
Not sure why your normal fences are spacing its icon. Would like to suggest, first, please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.
Thank you,Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Sounds like a multi-hour project. Could take a while before I get back here.
Same issue here.
System Model ZenBook Pro Duo UX581GV_UX581GVWin 11 Version 10.0.22621 Build 22621Fences 4.0.7.2NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 - Driver 526.47 (DCH)
The bottom icons moreover hang over the Fences window edge as well.
When rolling up the Fence some icons are left behind as ghost images on the desktop. When clicking them no program is started but they vanish.
In a Folder Portal Fence some of the icons on the other hand nearly overlap:
The desktop replacement program "Directory Opus" seems to interfere with Fences in such that accessing the Fences settings menu is trouble. When disabling that program the icon scaling issue Fences struggles with isn't solved however.Regular screen settings:
@60Hz
Reinstalled Fences, played with the resolution and other display settings etc. A "multi hour project" indeed.Nothing has worked so far. This issue greatly decreases the usefulness of Fences.
The spacing of those icons runs deep: even in Windows Settings > Desktop Icon Settings the pre-view predicts the spacing will be massive. There is no option to alter anything to the issue there either.
Hi
A program, an update or something else may have changed the setting for icon spacing. In Windows 10 (and I suspect the same goes for Windows 11), you could try this if you are comfortable editing registry values:
1. press Windows+R to open Run window, type regedit and hit Enter.
2. Navigate to the following location
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics
3. In the right panel, find out WindowMetrics. This is the horizontal spacing. Double click on IconSpacing to modify the value. Choose any value between -480 to -2730 where -480 represents the minimum spacing and -2780 represents the maximum spacing.
4. Now the vertical spacing is same as step 4. All you need to do is double click on IconVerticalSpacing. Now set any value between -480 to -2730. Tap OK to save changes. The icon spacing is thus changed.
5. Reboot the computer to save the changes.
Good luck...
The default value is most likely -1125, like in the screenshot, since I have never edited this setting.
JanOscar nailed it: his solution worked!
The spacing beween the icons in Fences is back to normal. After so much tweaking the icons itself are still bulky but that can be looked into later.
The IconSpacing value was set to -2058. That was reduced to what JanOscar suggested: -1125
After rebooting the icon spacing was back to normal. Thank you JanOscar.
I mentioned earlier the Explorer replacement program "Directory Opus" as maybe related to the issue experienced with Fences. That program was installed in the hope to deal with a very old Windows issue where [on high resolution screens] there is no difference beween "Large icon" view and "Extra Large" icon view. Just the space in beween the icons increases when switching to the later.https://superuser.com/questions/1001622/no-extra-large-icons-on-high-dpi-laptop-windows-10https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/file-explorer-not-showing-extra-large-icons/2adc05d3-cd04-4147-bb14-3b27bc5bc475
Somewhere something needs fixing. Microsoft has been ignoring this issue if one reads posts going years back.Programs like "Directory Opus" can likely only do so much when the OS isn't doing its part.
In my case, JanOscar solution didn't work.
I still have Fences icons more spaced than the Windows ones, as you can see in picture:
Are those from portal fence?
Thank you,

Sorry for late reply.
No, they are normal fences.
If you on Fences 6, not sure if this option available on previous version. Try this setting.
