Hi.
As we know, I can drag a program's shortcut from the Start menu into the desktop, taskbar and so on, and get it copied there, for a quick access etc.
When I try to do that for a program I installed from Microsoft Store, the shortcut is indeed copied, and it does run the appropriate program, but the icon on this shortcut is not the original one from the program itself, but something default of the OS.
Aparntely, it seems like it's happening only with programs from the Store, BUT when I go to "Open file location" of the original shortcut, I see it's related to Stardock. For example (a small program called Free Color Picker):
C:\Users\Kobi\AppData\Roaming\Stardock\S10\AnywaySoftInc.FreeColorPicker_0qkrc2qacwvfm
Its icon looks like this:
And stays this way when copied elsewhere. in the Start menu, this icon is fine.
So, why does this happen only to programs from the Store, how is related to Stardock/10, and do I fix this?
Thank you.
Hello,
Not really sure why there is Folder S10 and what is it purpose, but you can look into folder S8 "C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Stardock\S8" where the actual Shortcuts of MS apps is listed. And you can Right click on any of those > Create shortcut > move that shortcut into desktop. The Icons should show up accordingly.
Thank you,

I have no such folder for "S8" as you mention here. Under "Stardock" folder in this path, I have only S10.
Btw, when I double-click the shortcut in the folder I've mention in my OP here, it redirects the Windows Explorer to "This PC"...
Not really sure why you don't have "S8" folder in your system. I have forwarded your questions/problems to the Stardock Support team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.
Thank You,BasjStardock Community Assistant.
Yes, I understand the path I need to look for this folder...
If this number represents an older version of Start10, then maybe I started using this tool only from version 10 and I shouldn't have this older folder on my PC anyway...
Thank you for forwarding this issue!
BTW, just try this, Start10 Config Windows > Configure > Right panel "Which shortcut do you want on the right hand side?" > From the list enable the : Universal Application > Display as a Menu
Unless it was deleted before, Folder S8 should be there. Report back if it is not.
Thanks
I suspect you mean this as being the issue?

I will log it internally - thank you for the report.

Yes! Exactly that scenario.
So it's a known issue? Something I should expect to see resolved in the next version update?...
All I do is right click on the application and do a Send to... Desktop (Create Shortcut) and it works just fine. Or you can right click on the application and do a Pin to Taskbar if that's where you want it. Dragging an icon is actually not a good idea evidently.
For me, even when creating the desktop shortcut this way, the result is the same, exactly like illustrated in the video clip in sdRohan's message above. All the ways to create a shortcut to a program downloaded from Microsoft Store, end in the same way.
