I recently changed my DeskScapes background to an animated city landscape. There were no issues applying this background or the settings. A few weeks later, I attempted to change my background and now DeskScapes is locked with this background and I am unable to change the animated image or settings. When I make an attempt, even the preview image does not change inside the DeskScapes application. Nor do the effects change regardless of settings.
The above said I have tried deleting the local image of the background that is stuck. Also, I have completed uninstalled and reinstalled DeskScapes. None of which resolved the issue. The only next logical option I can think of is to completely uninstall the Desk Objects suite and start from scratch. I've been avoiding doing so as I use just about every application in the bundle and would like to avoid having to setup and reconfigure all the features I'm using in the suite as none of the other programs are having any issues.
Thanks in advance if someone has a resolution or workaround! If my description above needs more context or details let me know and I'll do my best to answer any questions!

This isn't new. I know of at least four other people with this problem. Uninstall DS 10 and install DS 8. It will work perfectly for you. This has nothing to do with "purging".
This is not your Thread Gregory , so thanks for you input but it is no help.
So we will walk this person through all the steps to try to fix the issue .
All systems are not the same and may require a different fix .
I do not need it to be "my thread" to comment. You should know that. According to the four people that to date I already know about this is a big help. Just saving time here. The "steps" do nothing. This is not our fault but it is our problem.
Yes you and the other 4 you report have an issue with DS10
But Myself and many others are running DS10 without issue , as you can see by all my Dream uploads.
So we are working on this issue that effects you , negative comments do not help.
and this thread is to help rlaughl0 with a fix . So let us do our job here , please.
I assure you that in many cases a " Purge " does help and is a starting point to a fix.
You also said you sent the problem to Support. How long does it take to get a reply?
All I can do at my end is report to them .
I can't say how long it takes at their end .
depends on the issue and how willing you are to work with support
in helping with your own fix for your issue .
Update -
I purged DeskScapes and reinstalled. I found that even with the purge, the folders DeskScapes creates to save various backgrounds to didn't delete when I removed the application. That said, I went in and manually removed all of the animated and still images that were saved locally.
Following up the above, I reinstalled DeskScapes and proceeded to download a new animated desktop. Now, the application seems to be lagging as the preview image stays populated with a temporary screen saying loading image. Also, when I attempted to apply the new animated background, instead of the image populating my background is black. I checked the fill settings and tried Global Settings and Auto Scale to Monitor Shape. When neither produced the background I tried the center option and still nothing.
As a side note, up until recently and I mean even after the new version rollout. DeskScapes has always worked very fluidly and I've never had any issues. Also, I know for certain that my machine meets all of the system requirements x10 so that isn't the issue.
At this juncture, I'm not sure what else can be done. As I said in my first post, all of the other applications that I have running in the Object Desktop suite are working perfectly fine and haven't given me any issues previously or currently.
I will look for next steps and see if we can't nail down the cause. Thanks again for the quick response!
Everyone,
I've reinstalled DeskScapes 8 and everything is working as normal when I make changes and apply backgrounds through this version. Looks like there is an issue with version 10 and either the way I've got my system configured or my machine. Not sure how to pinpoint but wanted to let you know it's not DeskScapes across the board, solely version 10.
Hello,
I have forwarded your reports and noted reply 10 and 11
to the Stardock support team for their review and recommendations.
Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates.
We really do appreciate your feedback, thanks.
Also need to know the complete version of Windows your running.
in run type in ( winver.exe ) to get this .
Windows 10 - Home Edition
Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.615)
I have pretty much every aspect of my system customized. This includes using almost all of the Object Desktop Suite to my GPU and processor setting, features and functionalities native to Windows 10, etc. Could it be possible that something else I have running on configured is conflicting with DeskScapes v.10? I've run into issues like this before with applications and so forth. The price you pay when you want to get the most out of your system I guess..
im having the same problem...pulling my hair out....I even paid twice for the program....it worked fine for a few weeks.....then went to change the dream and boom...CANT!...even after down loading new ones and clicking on them just keeps the one I have there now???? I build computers for a hobby.....I know the hardware but cant beat the software!!!!! so have done the purge …..uninstalled and re-installed...but no....so now what??????
Hello,I have forwarded your questions/problems to the Stardock Support team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate you feedback and patience.
Thank You,BasjStardock Community Assistant.
For you 2 people above we have only had 4 or 5 people reporting an issue like
this while the rest are not have this issue . It may be is your systems /set up .
Would you Please try a Clean Boot: https://forums.stardock.com/485954/deskscapes-support-faq#cleanboot
and test and report back here please.
Please make sure you have done an Actual Purge https://forums.stardock.com/485954/deskscapes-support-faq#reinstalling
and not a regular uninstall the Purge is different .
And always Reboot after and then test .
Been there done that. Again.
I uninstalled and reinstalled as well. No luck. Stuck with only being able to choose one "dream." Worked well all through the trial.....paid and a week later stuck. I bought Deskscapes 10.....everyone is talking about Deskscapes 8 doing well but I can't have it even if I wanted. I just want this to work. This app is a great idea and is beautiful when it works....please Stardock, do a patch already....this problem seem rampant.
I have forwarded your report to the Stardock support team for their review and recommendations.
I am having the same problem as the folks above. Deskscapes 10 worked fine until last week.
I had been using the waterfall by AzDude, when I try to choose another dream (rotating moon) I get a black preview that says "no suitable decoder found for this background" I downloaded and installed the MPEG2 decoder from the MS store.... No change.
If I click on another dream like "heartlight by muckyman" - the preview still shows the waterfall!
I'm on WIn10 Pro 64bit with May update installed.
Apparently, there is no support as I opened a ticket and was told to post by problem here!
Did the Purge routine, but Revo Uninstalles found remnants, which I deleted.
Help!
Sorry to hear you are having trouble.
That is not always a good thing for troubleshooting. What I would like you (all) to try is a clean boot:
https://forums.stardock.com/485954/deskscapes-support-faq#cleanboot
And after, make sure the DeskScapes service is there and is running:
I also need to know if you have tried the other 2 render options:
Sean DrohanStardock Support Manager
Sorry to hear you are having issues.
Also check your settings and switch from Media Foundation to one of the Direct Show settings there are 2 try both
test and see how that works for you ,,,,, see below .
Tried all the above steps, created local account w/ admin priv., ran DS batch file, tried both settings above and still no go.
Getting the black desktop and "No suitable decoder found message" Cannot download decoder without signing in to MS, and that is failing.
Try updating you Codecs , I use the Klite Mega pk https://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm
Test and report back here please .
AzDude - thanks for the advice, but I'm hesitant to do that as I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio installed on that laptop and I don't want to risk screwing that up... DS is working on my desktop and I have not updated the codecs there.
Is there anywhere I can download DS 8?
I have had all the versions of Sony Vegas Movie studio including 16 now and Vegas Pro now and have no issues , I use those programs
to make some of my dreams ,
As far as DS8 check your downloads folders and you probably have a download of 8 there .
Did you try changing your DS10 settings to Direct Show ? EVR or VRM-9
