Something I have noticed in my recent games, when an AI surrenders to me, I get their ships and can see that they are doing.One problem in particular here is that when you change government, you get a free ship granting you some bonus, usually to your planet.In this game in particular, I have inherited a Prime Minister Starship, giving 30% bonus to construction, influence and moral.What is the AI (genius) doing with this ship? It is using it as a scout ship, far from its territory. There are multiple planets where it could be of use.Save game (former Altarian starship)
That happens since Intrigue came out and was reported a lot of times already ...
I never know if I should use the forum, or the ticket system for these AI problems... anyway, hopefully, someone will notice.
Its actually been happening since Mercenaries came out. You just did not see it very often due to the AI not actually buying many of the planet buffing mercs, maybe a half hearted fix, AI not buying planet mercs, but who knows. i wont hold my breath on this getting fixed any time soon.
They obviously forgot to program some AI logic like this:
For all ships whithout task:
- Is it a planet buffing ship?
- No: go on with normal ship logic
- Yes: Is ship already in orbit of a planet that profits from buff?
- - Yes: do nothing (or look for a better planet within a certain range)
- - No: find planet that profits the most from buffing within a certain range (to prevent the ship from travelling 50 turns and squandering the buff meanwhile)
Or perhaps they have the logic but it doesn't work. Above pseudo code fails if ships are automatically given a default task (like scouting) on creation.
If they forgot the logic I presume the probability for a fix is low. If it's just an error a fix is more probable.

It happens in every game, without fail.
Yes, in all my recent games. I did not notice it before because I hadn't so many surrenders happening and I don't really keep watch over all of the AI ships.
It happens without fail in every game. AI always uses government ships to explore instead of using the boosting capabilities and it (AI) NEVER employs planet boosting mercenaries in their primary role. The Merc colony ships have become an extra resource for the human player, with retribution's lower limit on growth that has become a major plus for the human on games at lower than genius settings.
Heres an easy way to reproduce. Start a game where every AI faction has ancient. You will inevitably spot someone scouting with their "Prefect" ship.
