As we work on the next version of Fences, we are interested in getting your feedback on what you'd like to see.
We are particularly interested in features that will make Fences more useful in your work and enterprise environment.
Please comment below with any ideas and suggestions you might have.
Thanks!
I want to be able to "lock" fences in place on the desktop as it is too easy to accidentally drag them away from their usual place or even disappear them off the screen.
How about an option for Desktop Pages to scroll vertically (up/down) instead of horizontally (left/right). It would help visualize layouts when combined with virtual desktops which scroll horizontally (Left/Right)
Also it would be great if it had an ability to show only first icon in a fence when it's rolled up.
For instance: there is a shortcut on the desctop, and it looks like a shortcut, but when you hover mouse on it, the fence appears with all icons. Or if you hover the mouse on it and go down, the fence shows below the shortcut. It would be extremely neat.
I have a Fences folder pointed to my Downloads. If I delete a file from downloads, the fence does not reflect that change. I have to right-click and click "Refresh" for it to work.
So... ability for Fences to monitor the folder it's pointed to for changes and automatically reflect those changes without a manual refresh.
Totally agree
Hello team! Here are my ideas-requests for your next update :
• The "List (Big)" display option doesn't make sense. Let me explain. The adventage of that view is to be see many filenames at once. So since it's a 'big' mode, one would expect it to display big filenames too.
• Free Fences offering to display their files in a list (just like repertory-Fences)
• As an option : rolled-up Fences appearing like the window 8 square tiles (square flat icons without text with a customizable picture inside)
• Horizontal fences rolling horizontally
• New display similar to FIle Container (just like the MacOS file preview, where the selected subfolder are open in a new column of the same window)
• Tabbed fences (with "right click: Duplicate tab", and "right click: Open in a new tab" options)
• Option to assign a wallpaper to each desktop, so that the it changes when the user change the current Fences desktop
• Renaming a repertory-fence without renaming the real repertory.
Hi Stardock staff and users comunity
A possibility to customise Fences with personal pics overlay and color gradients would be welcome
First of all: My screen looks so much neater! So great job for the efforts up to now guys/girls!! Now for some of my niggling improvement wishes...It has been mentioned before already but an OnTop rollover over other screens would be great indeed! As long as that is - of course manageable (so you can hide when needed (preferably NOT with Double click on that... Maybe a Shift-H as shortcut?)Funnily enough if you have Fences organised (rolledup ) in a vertical way it DOES go over the other fences.I would like to see a push function there which automatically push the other fences down so that the are still visible.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Snapping simply is not working well. I can overlap - and sometimes this happens by accident. The only option given is to keep Fences spaced when moving. I do not see the use of this, as in "ideal" situation once you've set up your fences they stay where they are (but on laptops and extended screens Fences simply do not act well)So a function to keep a space between fences at all times could/would help with organizing your screen.I do know there is a Locking Fences option, but that is not the solution either, as then also the possibility to create a NEW fence is disabled.Perhaps individual Fence blocking is an Idea (BUT moveable when you have a vertical structure as mentioned above.--------------------------------------------------------------------Also currently the only way to hide/show the fences is to Double click in an empty screen. I am using Directory Opus which is using the double click to open a new window. Like to see other options to show/hide Fences added.--------------------------------------------------------When you open create a new fence while having the configuration screen open, it is not registered in the available Fences. For example if you want to assign A rule for Icon Placement, and you realise you actually need a new fence for it, you cannot select it from the Choose A Fence List. I have to exit my config and reopen the configuration ( I know: small nuisance, but when you're in an organising flow, this is stopping you)
So an improvement on that would be good too...I am sure I have more, but for now I'll leave this here
Free fences v4 for people who have already have buy v3 and still facing unsolved bugs!

I have a lot of icons on my desktop and have tried several options for organizing them including swiping and rolling up the fences. What I would really like is tabbed fences that is, the ability to stack multiple fences and chose among them by selecting a tab.
Desktop icon spacing controls (adjust, immediately refresh desktop to new values)
Horizontal
Vertical
I have posted this to solicit testers for the pending Fence maintenance release:

Hey all. I would like to request a very minimalist search feature for each fence or portal. See concept below.
I use Fences daily and I love it. Thank you for this wonderful app!
It is part of the proposed Fences 4 feature set. Your rendition looks super slick btw.
I currently have a .reg file that I modify, merge, reboot... the feature within fences would be soooo much easier
Hi,
I would love it if I could use a fence also as a sticky note, especially in combination with tabs this would be awesome!
Thx!
I would really like to see a way to programatically set fence positions. As it stands now, when I turn off my monitors, the fences migrate to the wrong display and show up in the wrong place when i power them all back up. I have to manually drag them back to the right place and manually resize them. This is a real pain.
This has been addressed with the version in testing:

You are welcome to request access there (please read the guidelines).
I have a situation were my laptop is a standard HD screen but when I plug into my docking station the monitors I use are 4K and the fences to scale correctly, they usually overlap and move into positions that make it difficult to reposition each time. I would be nice if there was some sort of layout memory for different resolutions. I dont mind setting it up once but the next time I plug in a 4k screen I would like to to remember size and position. Same in reverse when I move back to the laptop screen that is just HD to do the same.
Looks like the similar issue to some of the above people, I would like to be able to test 3.1 as well. I have been using Fences since the Free version and use it daily.
I did read a lot of great ideas here!
Exspecially with touch-/trackpads like on mircosofts surfaces ("precision touchpad")?
Thanks in advance!
In the "Layout and Snapping" menu section, do you have the "Store My Fences' Position on a per-screen-resolution" box checked?
I will try that and see
I would like to see auto organization based on the directory of an application. So for example, if the application is in my games folder it would be auto organized into the Fence I have configured for games. I would like to have multiple directories assigned to a specific fence.
Having set up roll-up fences for a variety of folders, apps etc and then find that in general use, they sit on the desktop and unrolling them doesn't display them above other windows makes them pretty useless.
There must be an option to have them appear on top of other windows and/or accessible from the system tray.
Does anyone read previous comments?
Desktop Icons cannot be above Windows. You need to blame Microsoft for their placement...
