Hi Ashes Devs
I enjoy the game so much but still find myself echoing some of the frustrations of others on the forum concerning the state of game play around resource accumulation and maintenance. I find it strange that the accumulation of quanta doesn't effect anything related to player freedom to focus on the fight. After all the quanta is the strange mineral that allows post humans to wage war in remote galaxies. Quanta is the measure of the strength of the player's link to the remote battlefield granting buffs and special abilities yet none of these abilities are tied to the automation of redundant tasks. I think that using quanta points on the Nexus itself to unlock AI slots is an approach to fixing some of this. Imagine spending quanta to unlock a slot that would control an available pan to send it out on a spy mission so the player can cue up a few and as they die off another is sent out in another direction. Another unit that can benefit from AI is the engineer. Idle engineers could be automatically added to an available slot that puts them to work repairing and or rebuilding missing metal and radioactive extractors. They could have a simple routine that brings an idle engineer closest to the nexus and has them "check" each of the resource points that aren't currently contested starting from the nexus and radiating out toward the rest of the map. Perhaps there could be another slot for an engineer that is specifically for maintenance of base defenses. If any of the defense structures are under par the engineer could do the maintenance but in this case it would start at the outer extremes and working inward towards the nexus. It'd be great if the quanta gains could be used to lighten the micromanagement load so the player is free to continue map conquest and unit deployment. If you want to go crazy with it you could make higher level unlock slots that make engineers go out and perform upgrades on existing defense structures so long as the player has enough metal / radioactive income. If this idea has already been discussed and dismissed then please forgive my unwitting necromancy. Otherwise please consider the implementation of such as system in the next update.
That's pretty cool, a quanta upgrade that gives you a toggleable behaviour for your idle engineers.
Thanks Chronopolize, I watch you play from time to time on the stardock youtube channel. I don't know if everyone will be receptive to the idea I proposed but if a few players would beta test the idea perhaps it would make it into the full release. Now we just need to convince a dev to implement a beta. Crossing my fingers.
