Hey everyone,
after long time, I wanted to play Fortnite again, but always got kicked with this message:
https://i.redd.it/s0nfenx9zosz.png
Google told me, i got an IP Ban for cheating. I was totally irritated, because I never cheated on my PC. After searching many forums, I found one post. WindowsBlinds shall cause that kick. So I uninstalled WindowsBlinds, restarted my PC and joined a Fortnite match. I played a hole round with no kick, till I died. I started another one and ended it with no kick. I reinstalled WindowsBlinds, started a round and got kicked out of match with this error.
So it is the fault of WindowsBlinds, that got me kicked out of game. I have some questions now:
1.) Is there a possibility to play Fortnite with WindowsBlinds?
2.) If not, is Stardock able to integrate somthing with an update, so it doesnt affect the anti cheat system?
3.) If this also isnt possible, could StarDock contact Epic for a solution?
Fortnite is the only game I play that causes the kick by WindowsBlinds.
Hope you can help me
Best regards
Daniel
Hello,
Sorry for your problem. I have push your report to our CM support Team for further action.
We appreciate your report. Thank you.
Thanks for this. I had been pulling my hair out for months trying to find out why I too was getting kicked falsely. So I've been keeping WB uninstalled for the time being. I've reported this as a 100% reproducible bug on Epic's forums but my posts were deleted by "unknown". Epic's end user support is the worst I've ever encountered from a company.
I don't think you can just unload WB either; needs a full uninstall. So strange.
Hello,I have forwarded your report to the Stardock support team for their review and recommendations. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We really do appreciate your feedback, thanks.
Same issue for me. With WindowsBlinds installed but turned off, I still was kicked from Fortnite. With it uninstalled, I can play Fortnite just fine. Specifically, this is the Battle Royale mode of Fortnite I'm referring to. I don't think it would apply to the other mode because it's the AntiCheat software that's detecting WindowBlinds as a cheat method.
Also note, Fortnite uses both EasyAntiCheat and BattleEye for their anti-cheating system. Both are third-party programs to Epic Games (Epic makes Fortnite). I don't know how this is determined, but one of the two randomly handles detecting the cheat or it's possibly multi-layered. I get the impression BattleEye runs and, if it wants to, it starts up EasyAntiCheat. But that's only an impression.
I hope you guys can communicate with Epic, BattleEye and EasyAntiCheat to try to get WindowBlinds on the "good guy" list. That would be very awesome.
It does kick for both PvE and BR game modes unfortunately.
Well, that stinks. I sure hope this gets fixed soon. I hate not running WindowBlinds. I'm married to a Fortnite-player, so NOT playing Fortnite is NOT an option. Otherwise, she will give me "the look" (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=387AbF2qcgY for reference).
I have forwarded your request to the Stardock support team for their review and recommendations. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We really do appreciate your feedback, Thanks.

It's been 4 months now and not a single hard response from the Stardock team on a possible solution to this issue. Epic also seems reluctant to do anything about it. Given it's a specific application causing the issue, I would think the burden of resolution falls to that apps developer.
Stardock, are you doing anything to correct this issue?
They are doing nothing....I am totally disappointed from both sides. I think, it was the last year of my subscription for Object Desktop Manager.
I have two thoughts about this.
As a result, this is probably my last year of Object Desktop for me too. I'll keep an open mind when it's time for me to renew in April. Maybe things will have improved by then because I'd still like to use WindowBlinds with my Winstep.
Thank you for the excellent recommendation. I'd been using Windowblinds for almost a decade and it's nice to see I have an alternative. It seems Stardock is more interested in game development at this point than supporting their desktop suite, which is a shame. I really love Start10 and will be looking into the WinStep version of that as well.
[...original message edited by me (the original poster) to remove mention of other, competing software...]
In testing here we have been unable to reproduce the issue.
We have tried and can connect up and play games with WindowBlinds running without any issues. The Fortnite launcher indicates it has blocked the WB dlls which is probably why it works. That said we are working on a WB update which will have additional checks for fortnite based on a theory about what it might be disliking. There are no promises here as ultimately they are detecting us and we can't get into trying to hide ourselves from them.
Please note the promotion of other software which competes with other Stardock software is strictly prohibited in the support forums.
