So my scenario is I work on different software development projects, and each one uses different utilities, IDE's and so on. It makes sense to be able to save groupings with this in mind. In one project I may be using Visual Studio and SQL Server Management Studio, in another I may be using IntelliJ and MySQL.
I'd like to be able to click on a group "project" file or shortcut or something that opens the various tools I'm using in a group. They don't have to open the projects, just the applications, keeping in mind that some need to run with elevated privileges.
This is something we're looking at for a future update.
I'm seriously considering buying this. I've been trying the trial out today and this was the the first thing I was looking through the settings to see if it had. A setting to save a grouping or something like:
"Always put these programs together" -> Visual Studio, SQL Server Management Studio, Git Kraken, Aqua Data Studio
"Add to an existing auto-grouping"
Or, you create a group, then you can add default programs you want in it (as long as they don't exist in another group).
This is absolutely a must-have. I thought it would have been in there already.
This is really the feature that I was looking for. I would love to have a shortcut that would automatically start the programs that I have in the group. It seems like such a simple thing to overlook for this program.
Exactly! It seems so obvious I would have thought it would be fundamental to the design of the app.
Not impressed with Stardock's cookie cutter response to my question either.
We felt it was better to release 1.0 and then canvas feedback on how people would use it for saving groups rather than put something in and then find people had different ideas on how they would use that.
There are a multitude of ideas on how people would use it in their own workflows and unfortunately some are technically impossible which doesn't help matters!
Be assured that we are working on this area and will hopefully have some saved groups features in v1.1.
Thanks Neil, that makes sense to me. The ability to save a cluster of applications to a group would be very useful to me, even if those applications weren't necessarily opened by Groupy, almost like a collection of tabs that act like shortcuts which open the applications that are part of the group.
Newcomer here. Please add me to the list of people who would like saved groups. It would be really great to be able to launch the groups from the Taskbar, Start Menu, and Desktop btw;)
+1. Rebuild the groups each time is not very effective. And there is an alternative doing the same thing – grouping same application.
