Hey everyone,
This weeks discussion is going to be a wishlist style question. If you could have a single new unit added to the game what would it be?
I would like to know the tier, strengths, weaknesses (yes it has to have a weakness), air/land, etc.
1) T1 equivalent of nemesis, weak at battling other units, but capable of swarming a dread.
I'm racking my brain trying to come up with something but I am kinda struggling to come up with some ideas.
At the most I have come up with these:
Some kind of heavy fighter craft, advanced air, with strong anti aircraft weapons. These weapons would be slow firing and the aircraft it's self would be slower and less manoeuvrable, even more expensive then the basic fighter craft making it ineffective against fast, nimble and large numbers of smaller aircraft while also making them vulnerable to heavy static anti aircraft fire.
Heavy cruisers. Heavily armoured cruisers with strong HP but poor fire power. These heavy cruisers would be more then able to survive the intense fire power of the late game environments but would rely on other, more damaging cruisers to actually deal with the enemy. Higher then average cost, slow but no more then your average siege cruiser or assault gun. These hovercraft are designed to stand between your supports/battle cruisers and the enemy adsorbing massive amounts of fire power, mostly dealing with lesser threats like enemy frigates or possibly even drones and scout aircraft. Your damage tanks, essentially.
I am partial to support units. They can change the game in interesting ways. Consider the following:
1. Mobile shield (think Gungans) - Small damage mitigation aura/field. % miss chance as opposed to just more damage soak.
2. Buffer (or debuffer)- Unit that could give a slight overall increase to units in it's aura (attack bonus, defense bonus, range bonus, etc.) or give a negative effect to enemy units (slow down movement speed or attack speed, or any number of possibilities)
3. Poisoner - Unit which can apply a damage over time effect to enemies.
4. Mobile Radar. - Huge attack radar sight (but no change to the actual player view)
5. Hider - Unit that generates stealth. Can be a unit that can hide 1 other single unit or can be a field. I am doubtful on this one, though, because it seems like a deliberate, determined decision was made by the developers to NOT include the stealth mechanic in this game.
6. Painter - Unit which can, at very long range, mark a specific target for an airstrike or some other high damage attack.
7. Controller - Unit that can make an enemy unit switch sides for a period of time.
These would all probably be T2 level units. Their weakness is that none of them can directly attack.
Just some ideas.
I thought about shield unit too.
Turinium leach. build lots of em. Stackable effect.
+1. Some time ago, there was talk about a T3 flying air dreadnaught "Helios". This, combined with the ability to put air units in an army would be a good counter-play against slow-moving juggernaughts.
I'm keen on an AA Dread for each faction.
What about additional upgrade choices for dreadnaughts that boost AA?
how about units that do stuff at the metaunit level? Ex. Put five of these in a meta unit, and they make a shield around the whole army. Or cloak the whole army. Or whatever.
... give metaunits a purpose.
(Woa. Did I say that?! Heh.)

Would definitely change things up a lot.
Substrate Healer (Medic Equivalent).
Agree about the AA Dreadnought.
Stealth Field unit (Hides units from Radar). Or on that same note, stealth unit.
False Flag unit (Generates fake Radar signatures to make artillery waste its shots).
Sniper units (Long range, high damage, exceedingly low rate of fire and delicate).
EMP/Cryo units (Stuns or slows enemy units respectively, including their rate of fire).
Tier 2 PHC Healer (Increased health, healing, healing range and armor).
It finally clicked why the healing change for Substrate just felt off. There is no longer a way to (essentially) out-of-combat heal your units as Substrate, and the healing drones for the Nest of the Queen are overpowered for in-combat healing. They are also thematically weird for Substrate to have them only on a juggernaut. Instead of adding a medic unit, please consider once again allowing Constructors to heal units (PHC Engineers are fine as-is). The healing drones from Nest of the Queen should also go.
