Hey Guys,
I think Windows 10 updated overnight and now Fences lost a recent layour (that I've had for at least a month or more) and everytime I restore a snapshot from yesterday, it reverts back to the prior layout in under a second.
Whats going on?
Thanks
Hello 9-Ball,I have forwarded your questions/problems to the Stardock Support team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate you feedback and patience.
BTW it would also help if you could post a video of your issue.
Thank You,BasjStardock Community Assistant.
Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having trouble.
I can, as the vast majority can, demonstrate that snapshot restoration works consistently. This video (I just made) is with two different monitors, two different resolutions, both scaled differently:
https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/2019-08-29_10-19-41.mp4
Note that I have the Layout auto-adjustments set to 'Store my Fences' positions on a per....' and I reset it.
We are not blaming anything, just trying to reduce possibilities of what could be causing conflicts with Fences.
We are open to suggestions, 9-ball, but we need more than 'it happens sometimes' without reliable ways to reproduce any issue.
If you can give me an example (video / images) of how to reproduce any issue reliably, I'll test it myself.
Thanks for the feedback, 9-ball.

I have 3 monitors, restore has not worked on my system for several years. The cause of annoyance for me is that every time the NVidia drivers are updated, Fences loses all layout and defaults everything back to the center monitor. I cannot get my layout to restore after this.
I have tried saves with "store my Fences positions on a per-screen-resolution basis" both ticked and not selected, neither setting has any affect.
When the NVidia drivers get updated, the final desktop has the same resolutions as before the update. I don't change my resolution settings (except when gaming). It would be really cool if Fences were able to automatically restore their previous layout after a driver update, or failing that, if the restore function could actually work.

Windows 10 Pro 64bit vsn: 1909
Intel Core i7-4770
NVidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti
Display: 1=1920x1080 2=1600x900, 3=1600x900
Fences vsn: 3.0.9.11
Surprise! The latest NVidia driver update installed, the screens all went black for a moment (as they do) and my desktop came back with my fences all in their original locations on each screen! Woohoo, I didn't have to relocate everything from the main monitor after an update.
- I had to mention this, since I had earlier made the effort to complain about it not working like this on previous driver updates.
Good to know , Thanks
How do I stop receiving emails for this?
I have a laptop with a docking station, a home environment with two external monitors and a work environment with two different external monitors. I also use Display Fusion. In all cases I have the devices setup from left to right, displays 1 to 3: laptop, monitor 1, monitor 2.
The snapshots I had taken for the work environment appear to restore correctly only momentarily before swapping to incorrect monitors. Looking at the XML for the snapshot it appears the goal of the process for restoring the snapshot is to overwrite registry values. When I look at the registry values in RegEdit it does not appear these changes are sticking.
I was able to get my snapshots to eventually stick when fiddling with the Windows 10 Immersive Settings App's Display Settings.
At home my laptop screen (display 1) is my 'main display' as the Settings app calls it. Display Fusion calls it the 'Primary Display' in it's Monitor Configurations window.
At work my left external monitor (display 2) is my 'main display'. I believe the original goal of this change had been to get the icons and fences that would display at home on my laptop screen to instead display on display 2 at work. This hasn't worked too well and I tried to make a couple of snapshots for each environment.
In all cases the right external monitor is display 3.
When trying to restore a snapshot with display 2 as my main/primary display I get momentarily correct layout/fences-to-display assignment.
If I tell Windows to designate display 1 as main/primary and restore the snapshot everything is as desired. It is not apparent if the DisplayFusion and Windows Settings always line up in agreement of which display is main/primary.
So it seems like snapshot recording and restoring works consistently as expected only if the main/primary display is always consistent (perhaps with display 1 always being main).
AzDude or Rohan, let me know what questions you may have.
Un- Check EMail me at the bottom of the post .
Can you please fix your failure of a tool.
If your not on board with MS's development then when they change something it breaks your stuff.
Not sure what's going on but I am having the same problem with version 4!
I did a reinstall and it still does the same crap where it moves everything to my secondary monitor.
Here is an idea. How about one of your brilliant programmers put in a feature that states "DO NOT MOVE/RESIZE no matter what"
There is nothing in this thread of any help and you have conveniently turned off support other than refunds and "Corporate" crap. :/
If I can't find a solution I will ask for a refund as this should be working. It was until something changed and I have no idea why its behaving this way. I do not want icons on my secondary monitor that are sized wrong and the fences are all screwed up.
Don't bother replying unless its a fix.
Same issue and this actually fixed it in the latest ver. 4. I also agree that per-screen resolution ought to be used, but when one forgets to notice the second monitor was not on, these steps helped to restore what I setup after turning on the second monitor (that had switched to another layout).
suggestions for devs:Per-screen resolution settings does introduce a level of complexity that could be presented with a small number in a corner of each snapshot to show how many resolutions settings are saved with each snapshot, and perhaps a restore option that can choose which resolution setting to restore to using scaling. Something along those lines.
