Right now I"m leaning towards Gravitonics (for the capacity bonuses) and Slavers (for the Slave building abilities).
Are there any other particularly good choices for a civilization that people would recommend?
Synthetic and Slavers?
With a Synthetic Civilization thouugh, it's less useful as the Slaver bonuses mostly favor morale and +1 pop cap increase (already 100 anyways).
One feedback to Stardock might be to make "Synthetic" bonus for Slavers only.
Well the top two i heard about is xenophobic, and anchient. Xenophobic and inventive are pretty sweet. By the way glad to see you are here.
Imo scavangers is really powerfull as it gives +1 to mining. That's right, not 0.1 but 1.0! It's cheap to research too which means you can get it early on.
You just need a couple starbases to have basically unlimited resources.
Mix with xenophobic for maximum effect.

Yeah I can see why Xenophobic is very powerful. The production bonus is very good.
Another combination I have been enjoying is ancient-unwavering for their passive boosts to ships. You can quite early have 2 repair, 20% hp and 40% evasion (if you take agile+2) for free on your ships. In age of ascension you go up to like 50% evasion, 7 repair and 20% damage reduction. Add one ship with fleet boosters and have nearly unbreakable shipswithout needing a single defense tech.
Top ability? My vote goes to vigilant (+starbase radius, (all) starbase defense boni+modules, Star forge tree, Weather control zenith tree, and the very powerful arcean navigation centers tree). Basically it would be worth it for the Arcean navigation centers alone, which can make your ships easily the fastest of all races even without built-in engines (tip: watch for adjacency boni where you built the navigation buildings)
I also like wealthy, for the +1 production bonus, which gives a huge boost to manufacturing, research and economy especially in the colony rush phase, where it matters most.
