Hi,
During one of the many upgrades of my main battleship type, I forgot to reassign this from the default Support - Heaven knows why it was pretty powerful by then - to Assault.
The result has been that when I defend transports with fleets of these the transports - v valuable as I finish the rest of the galaxy off - get destroyed.
I know this is my stupidity but still fairly easy to do.
Has anybody else had this problem? Presumably, one solution would be to make a new category of non-combat support to be used only when no other ships are available at all but this would involve changing a definition and so perhaps a pain for Stardock.
Cheers,
Jon
I've accidentally assigned a ship role other than what I wanted on a few occasions, but so far I've caught it quickly and been able to design another ship with the role I wanted before building any of the incorrect ones.
Ship creation is a pain sometimes. Every time you update a ship in the designer, it defaults to type 'Escort'. And since the screen does not even mention the name of the ship you are working on (until you click save), you sometimes have multiple copies of your unique FluffyBump ship in the same fleet, some of which are capital ships, some interceptors, some assault ships and some guardians, because your memory is not perfect and you don't recall what type of ship you wanted it to be. I mean, the game does save what the ship type is in your list, right? Just get the Designer module to read the right variable name and to put it in the proper category. All fixed, with no hassle, for properly commented code.
I think the game assumes that we are too stupid to create ships and keeps adding new ones to the design list whenever we research a tech. Put a check box in the settings to TURN OFF ALL AI SHIP DESIGNS for the player who knows what he's doing. Aside from the few ships that the game gives me on startup, I never use any Ai designs. Hiding hundreds of ships behind the expander tabs in the list is just a temporary fix but those irritating things still show up in your update list and it takes forever to delete them. So please add that 'TURN OFF ALL AI SHIP DESIGNS' option in Settings and pretty please, stop changing the type of ship my upgrade yearns to be. After about 4800 game hours, I almost know what I'm doing.
Another minor bug too. Two or three updates again, all the ships in the Designer lost their detail and became sharp white blobs, impossible to see the details on the ship and equipment. I haven't tried a game without the 'Star Wars' mod so don't know if it's there with mods turned off.
Almost a year later and this still applies.
