I played and beat all the missions in Ashes Escalation on a previous version (2.1.1.4 I think) and the game ran perfectly, and now I go and update my game (GOG version) to 2.21.26459 and I get "api-ms-win-core-rtlsupport-l1-2-0.dll" is missing from your computer and the game won't start. I installed the game with the full installer (GOG doesn't provide patches, really annoying), it gave me this error, then I tried running the installer again and same issue. Restarted my computer, same issue. I'm running Windows 7.
I tried launching the game with the Ashes exe and the Ashes DX11 and DX12 executables. Same errors (I know DX12 won't work on windows 7, but I tried it just in case). I ran the game perfectly before the updates.
In the mean time I would google, api-ms-win-core-rtlsupport-l1-2-0.dll is missing. Seems it is a pretty common problem not linked to Ashes per say. Hopefully a solution can be found within.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game and other things and it still doesn't run. This is unacceptable. The game was working perfectly before, now this version is completely broken.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I already tried googling, reinstalling Visual C++ redistribute, nothing works. Google isn't helpful in this situation.
One post I found suggested that the directx11 dll shouldn't be bundled with the games as it should get it from your OS, yet this game comes with it bundled in this version. Not sure what the issue is, but the game worked on the previous update and I just ran it before I updated and now it doesn't work. It really looks like it's an issue with the game.
Can I have a fix for this please from the developers or at least some indication they are working on it?
I can't play the game I bought.
All my Ashes startup problems were fixed by increasing my total page file (virtual memory) size. I now have something like 8GB total page file, on SSDs. (I only have 8GB of physical RAM).
BTW, this was done by setting a fixed size on each of the disk I wanted to be used (same value for Max and Min). I don't let Windows manage the page file size.
Did you check your drivers for updates?
Driver Pack Solution is pretty good. Just uncheck the "things it wants you to install" like programs and you can update your drivers.
As always, create a restore point first so you have something to go back to, if anything goes wrong.
What drivers are you talking about?
If you mean the display drivers, I didn't try updating that (Nvidia 372.90) GTX 970. But when I searched online it sounded like that dll was part of Visual C++ redistribute. Why would updating the display driver fix it? Or do you mean some other driver?
I tried re-installing VC++ 2015 but it said it can't install because a newer version is already installed. When I checked programs and features I saw I had 2017 installed. When I tried reinstalling ashes I noticed it installs VC++ 2017. The one before this that I have installed in 2013. I have both x86 and x64 installed for all VC++ versions installed.
What is this "Driver Pack Solution"? Is this some third party driver update software?
I'm not talking about some driver. Just about every driver. It's good to have updated drivers.

You can also freshly install Direct X and VC++ with this program. And it's free. If you haven't updated your Graphics driver, go get GeForce Experience to always get notified for any new Graphics driver (today 381.89 was released). Or you can simply just go here: http://www.nvidia.de/Download/index.aspx?lang=enDon't get me wrong, but I strongly recommend updating that graphics driver and VC++ and DirectX with Driver Pack Solution.
And yes, this is a third party update software which is not unusual and not a bad thing
There is no response from the developers? This is unacceptable. I bought this game for Windows 7. I was able to play perfectly on Windows 7, and now the game doesn't work. Apparently that file is only on Windows 8 from what I read.
Please fix my game for Windows 7. I paid for this game, It's not acceptable to stop supporting Windows 7.
Did you actually try what I wrote or did you ignore that? Cause without that feedback you are not gonna hear much from devs.
Edit: I take back on what I said
Hello, I'm one of the Developers on Ashes: Escalation, I'm sorry to hear you are having problems.
If you still have any of these three files in your Ashes install directory, please delete them and try again.
msvcp140.dll
vccorlib140.dll
vcruntime140.dll
We mistakenly distributed them with an earlier version of the game, but they are not required, and they can cause problems on Windows 7.
Let me know if that works.
Hi Thank you for getting back to me. I removed those dll files and my game now starts and runs.
I also want to thank everyone else who replied and gave me suggestions. This includes Ticktoc, Ashpire, and DKTrue. Sorry if I forgot anyone.
I really appreciate everyone's help.
Thanks again.
