I have been on hiatus from the game for the last year and thought it would be fun to restart it, especially with the huge update. Then I was totally disapointed by the "Administrator" rule for starbases. I like the idea, but the way it is implemented should be as a playable choice. I think, when creating a map you should be able to choose how it is implemented, since starbases are a huge part of the game. The choices should be something like this:
Low: 50% release core value
Normal: As is
High: +100% release core value, +100% release tech value
Very High: +200% release core value, +200% release tech value
What do you say?
Well the reasoning by a few people were they might of been the problem behind constructor spam I don't know is that some people have a compulsiveness to do things that are on the game that they don't have to do. Now for the most part I find this fun, but they don't. Most of us play the game how we want.
Well, Ive allways liked this game because of the lack of restrictions, so it would be great if they could implement some sort of on/off button. What do you think about my suggestion?
Amdinistrators in 2.0 are only a snippet of the system, the rest comes with Crusades, I suggest you go read Dev Diary 4 it will bring you upto speed on what this system is eventually goign to be like.
I hate constructor spam and so principally I like the Administrator system, but I agree that it should be a game setting how much Administrators there are.
But as Hormevore says Crusade will change that a lot, so we will have to wait and see ...
Crusade? You mean the expansion i'm supposed to buy? Why would I buy it when I can't play the game now? This "administrators" thing is a horrible idea. I've just hit the arbitrary, random, nonsensical cap in my game and now that I know what it is, well, I quit. I thought you were doing a good job making starbases usable, right up to the point where you wouldn't let me use them anymore.
Why can't i mine these resources in an empty sector of the galaxy? Oh, I guess my species has peaked at 20 minds capable of running a starbase, despite my massive and ever-growing population. If people are spamming starbases and abusing the system, MAKE A ONE-ECONOMIC-STARBASE-PER-PLANET LIMIT and don't just randomly cap military, culture, and mining starbases just for the sake of making a rule. Not to mention xeno studies. Ugh.
Really, this is an infuriating and frankly just upsetting change. This absolutely needs an off switch, and a slider for multiplayer so people can decide for themselves. Anyone know where it is in the config files so I can fix this ridiculous silliness?
RE: reading the dev diary - that's a nice suggestion, but some of us just want to be able to play the games we already payed for without embarking on a research project before we press "play".
EDIT: The thing that I THOUGHT was going to happen was that starbases would be able to mine local asteroids and thus produce their own upgrades themselves, rather than having to send constructor modules from a starbase that might be a thousand light years away. God knows where I got that idea, it's obviously lunacy i guess.
God forbid they add more strategy to a, urm, strategy game...
Exactly! I guess they think letting people discuss and choose their own map-appropriate cap wouldn't be an, erm, strategic choice.
People always get upset when they suddenly have restrictions on what was once an infinite supply. I know because I went through the same reaction. Then I found where the extra administrators were hidden and how I could adapt my game play. So, I have been where you are now. And I laughed at my own outrage later. The game turns out to be quite playable with the new numbers and limits. I don't need yet another variable. I don't see it as big enough an issue to require a game redesign. But that is just my opinion. Please don't flame me for disagreeing with you.
I assume you actually know the difference between complaining about limited supplies and ranting about a new mechanic. If not, we have nothing further to discuss. The designers get to do what they do with the game. If you feel so strongly about it, you can learn to make the one line code change it would take to mod your copy of the game. Otherwise you have made the, erm, strategic decision to switch to rant and attack. Not the set of tactics I would take, but maybe it works for you in your life.
If you are at all interested in the future of the game, I do have to recommend picking up Crusades. Otherwise, play whatever way works for you, and if all else fails, make the game do the right thing yourself. It may be the only way you end up being really happy with things.
Ok there mr patronizing, I asked where this was. Do you know? I used to be quite familiar with the config files in this game but things have changed a lot since last i looked and I know how many there are.
And I havent flamed anyone, I came to a thread and posted in support of it, and I threw a troll's inane comment back in his face. If you've been where I've been you know how sickening this change initially seems. You might at least try to answer my question instead of just talking as though I didnt ask it.

These lines: <BaseAdministrationPoints>4</BaseAdministrationPoints>
I love the administrator idea. I've been wanting a plug in colony spam since late last summer. Looking forward to a reworking of anomalies as well.
Thanks, Go4Celerity. I could not offer the answer because I did not know the answer because I didn't need the answer and therefore did not memorize the answer. I could only mention that it existed. I do not do other people's net searching for them, which may be rude of me, but there it is. Hopefully, Fragnafritzz will now be able to make the game do whatever is needed. Again, thanks. That is what community is for.
Thanks Go4Celerity for the way of modding the file. Does this work out correctly without any major bug attacking? (why Im asking is because of comp breakdown I cant right now try it out and I have to wait a couple of weeks)
I must agree with Fragnafritzz a bit. The new layout almost demand that you buy the new update and thats, according to me, is a bit sneaky. This update should only come with The Crusade (which Im not thinking of buying in the near future because at release date it will probably cost somewhere around 20 euros) and not be added to the original game. And in the Crusade Ive read that is going to be applied to almost everything (Survey ships?) which will really hit the game hard, both from a realistic and a game perspective (I mean, come on, a galactic empire spanning 100 of worlds and billions in population only has a 100+ administrators, hell, even Sweden has more politicians in the cabinet, not to mention administrators ).
Well if I'm a troll it is because I am on these forums a lot. What is exactly trolling. If I'm not the troll I can't figure out who is; because I can't find anything trolling. I really think trolling is when someone says something someone doesn't like.
I am kind of fecesious when everyone thought constructor spam was a big issue for years when all along it was people couldn't controll their own maximising, and then when this should cause more dopomine in the brain was causing them to not have fun is the first place when I actually didn't care about starbase spam. Causing administators to be created when this is also not a big deal to me.
I do agree that we probably should have a pregame option to shut this off.
As far as crusades the only thing I think could have been made to make this easier is that you can now use citizens for administrationsl otherwise I have to agree that this is now going to get expanded upon. Oh yeah sorry if you think what I call posting is trolling. By the way I should apologise for this post.
Hi. Cool post. There’s an issue with your site in chrome, and you may want to test this… The browser is the marketplace chief and a good element of people will omit your excellent writing because of this problem.

Reminder: if you go up the government tech tree you can, indeed, get a ton of administrators.
@Frogboy
Are you talking about vanilla or crusade?
If you are talking about vanilla:
on insane you have 32 base admins + 4 from a govern tech and by going through the govern and influence tree you get a multiplier of roughly 3, so just about 100 admins. I think this what is not considered 'a ton' in this thread.
In case you are talking crusade:
Well, I think there is a lot of guess work involved. I think people would be very interested to see an argued estimate of how many admins would be obtained by turn 200 or so and how many would be needed. Keep in mind we don't have your WIP version of Crusade
@frogboy Well, the problem is that for us vanilla players it forces us to buy the Crusade to get those extra admins. That, according to me, is not a fair deal, since galactic civ already has the most DLCs of any game I have (actually, several of the quite expensive DLCs are like free content/upgrades on my other games, the only DLC that may be actually worth calling a DLC is mayhaps crusade, but comparing to the price of the others, this will probably almost cost like a new game).
This i why I dont like it. According to me it feels abit like the Stardock is just trying to suck me dry by implementing it in the vanilla game and almost demanding that you buy the crusade DLC. Dont like to be played like that.
In crusade you will also need admins for colonies snd surveyships, not just starbases.
