I don't know if it's only me (didn't see any post about it) but since 2.0 became live everything is very dark - ships, asteroids, anomalies, relics, shipyards, bases, resources.
This is default zoom. If i zoom to almost full in thinks are lighter, but not asteroids, resources and anomalies
Asteroids and resources behave even more strange...
This is facing the star.^
This is away from the star.^
I tried everything - latest drivers, verifying files, purging and installing anew. Even for a heck of it installing new Windows on different drive - just for this one game... nothing.
What is even more strange - this is my 2.0 opt-in save v
It's more then fine.
Don't know what to do. I created a ticket and for now playing as it is - mostly in zoom out mode.
Just wanted to mention that I'm having the exact same problem. Likely due to the "lighting changes" listed in the 2.0 patch change log. Looking forward to a fix in 2.0.1.
Same effect here too.
Yup same. Really messes with custom ships too with really odd and not natural darkshades on parts.
For me though sometimes it is there sometimes it is not.
I've been having this issue since 1.9 here. It's like something is casting a shadow on everything unless you zoom way in. And since my race is using the 'steel' color set, they are almost completely black unless zoomed all the way in, and they have odd shading issues....
Same dark issue, also started after 1.9. And the ship shadows seem arbitrary. They're not really shadows, more like a solid black total eclipse.
It really ruins the game. Is there a way to edit out that light source in the xml files?
This could just be your graphics are closer to the minimum requirements. I dont experience this problem. One time i played a game a long time ago called shattered suns, because of my graphics card where planets were black, so to each his own. This even makes sense after an update causing this since i remember awhile.back they were making graphics better. If you are not using integrated graphics you could up your card graphics settings.
I think card is okay, AMD Radeon R9 M395x. The game was flawless prior to 1.9 (worse after 2.0). The OP detailed the issue pretty well and as others have described, there are arbitrary shadows appear when zooming in or out. That doesn't seem like a performance hit. I hope its fixed with Crusade.
If you havent jet, send a ticket to support.
Im running a Radeon R9 290 and dont have this issue.
I have also been having this problem, again since 1.9 launched. I submitted a bug report some time ago, however never heard anything back.
it is very obvious that when changes were made to the shadow rendering in 1.9 it broke the shadow mapping, and the fact that these game-breaking changes have not been rolled back until fixed has very much disappointed me, as stardock has in the past been very good at listening to their player-base.
...one very disturbing possibility that occurred to me was that those with a complete set of the DLC, or even one specific DLC, may not be having issues due to the 'fix' simply being that the lighting changes were coded based on the presence of some DLC feature not in the base game. this I suspect would be a relatively easy mistake to make, if someone wasn't thoroughly testing the interaction of various DLC combinations.
anyway, I have un-installed the game until such time as this is no longer an issue, and will certainly not be acquiring any additional DLC or expansions until such time as these issues are resolved.
Same issue here.
2.0
Win7 x64 w/ AMD 7970
And I have all the DLCs.
It's pretty noticeable. To me, it looks like light cast from stars only hit ships when zoomed in all the way. Otherwise, they're cloaked in shadows with ambient light. In any case, it's exactly as shown as the OP's first and second screenshots. I assumed it was intentional as a performance optimization.
Looks like poop, tho.
I just bought the game because I liked GalCiv 2.
I have the same problem; for me it's just unplayable. You don't see a thing, it's not very "user experience" friendly....
And from what I see from the dev answers on this thread, I probably shouldn't have bought the game.
I have no DLC ; and a GTX 1060... (win7 64b)
There are no dev answers on this post only founders elite.
Exactly my point.
I have the same problem on all mine win7 machines. No problems on win10. Changing driver versions didn´t help. Switching from discrete (860m,870m) to integrated video card (hd4600) also didn´t help.
If you havent jet open a support ticket" its usually the faster way to get an answer
Problem fixed in the latest patch.
Thanks.
