October 18, 2016 – Plymouth Michigan - Stardock announced Star Control: Origins today. Star Control: Origins is a sci-fi action/adventure game with many RPG elements set in the future where the player is the captain of Earth’s first interstellar starship that explores a procedurally created galaxy, makes contact with various alien races, explores unique worlds, and engages in action packed battles, all while trying to unravel the complex intrigue that has the galaxy on the brink of chaos.
"We Earthlings are the newcomers to the galactic scene," said Brad Wardell, Executive Producer. "The dozen plus space-faring species have been hatching their schemes since before we got out of trees. Now, suddenly, they have to deal with those meddling apes from Sol 3 who threaten to upset the plot."
The game starts in the year 2086 with the unaware humans receiving a distress call from an alien ship that has crashed on the moon of Triton, leading to the formation of Star Control, an international space agency dedicated to protecting the Earth. The player takes on the role of The Captain of Earth’s first interstellar ship whose first mission is to investigate the distress signal.
Star Control: Origins represents a new start for the beloved franchise. Stardock acquired the rights to Star Control 1/2/3 from Atari and since then has launched a new game studio in Towson Maryland specifically to create the new Star Control title. The classic series is available for sale on Stardock's newly launched StarControl.com website with players also able to pre-order Star Control: Origins and join the Founder’s Program.
"Star Control is ultimately about us Earthlings exploring the galaxy, finding and talking to strange alien civilizations, and hopefully living to tell the tale," said Wardell. "We are hopeful those who remember the original trilogy will like the direction we’re taking here while at the same time introducing a whole new generation to the awesomeness of a game that combined action, adventure, and roleplaying in a sci-fi game simultaneously."
Star Control: Origins is scheduled for release on PC and consoles with the PC release scheduled for 2017.
Players interested in joining the Founder's program for $35 will gain access to the upcoming beta program as well as access to the Founder’s Vault, mod tools, private journals and more.

And so it begins...
Happy days and jubilation!
I reckon this community is about to get a bit larger.
This should be good
"Star Control: Origins is scheduled for release on PC and consoles"
why for gods sake, why. Why have gameplay and design limited by those piece of shit inept controllers? Ditch that nonsense and let yourself loose by taking full advantage of mouse and keyboard, without a second thought on wheter this will be doable on a pad later on, or will that work optimal on a pad. Make an authentic pc game, the kind that youll play and say "this is only possible on a PC, because it has M/KB". Theres no audience on consoles for this
Well, I really wish I could be excited about this but I'm not!! Seriously Stardock, where is Sins 2? why another turned based game when you all just released one???
This is so lame, either make a new Sins 2 or sell the IP to someone who will.
Sins is done by IronClad. You're totally free to go talk to them about where their sequel is. Ironclad doesnt seem to be in any hurry to make one.
Stardock is just the publisher.
Wow, I think the exact opposite. I think this type of game will be HUGE on console...
Wasn't the first one on 3DO as well?
Hell, all you needed for it to play were up, down, left, right, and three other buttons.
It was never a very extensive control setup.
SC1 released on a whole slew of systems (Amiga, C64, Sega Genesis, DOS) but not 3DO.
SC2 released on 3DO with a significant content upgrade that included cinematics and voice acting that could be accommodated by the system's CD format.
But yeah, the controls were always simple and I think should translate to console control schemes quite easily. I don't own a modern console but a lot of titles these days that are developed for both PC and console tend to be better than they used to back in the day when console rot used to be much worse on titles translated to PC. This is a PC title first and foremost, anyhow.
Speaking generally, I've noticed a lot of console titles in the last few years translated very well to PC though. Maybe it's because they're developed together to be platform neutral and seem to be more cohesive experiences regardless of the system as a result.
I definitely remember SC1 being on a bunch of stuff. I personally didn't enjoy it as much.
I also meant SC2 by saying the first one. Since I never got into the first one. Bit of a slip-up.
But bashing a console release on this game is stupid as the game never had complex controls in the first place.
Most modern controls have far more buttons then you'd ever have needed to play the first two games.
Also three never happened.
Splendid news.
I look forward to seeing what you do with these guys
Let's be honest, Star Control isn't the kind of game that needs ridiculous graphics.
A console release is good for StarDock.
We don't want another Demigod on our hands. *which needs to get at least one more update *
Good news indeed! Just one question.. Is there a Linux realease planned ?
You just wrote about PC, and there is a little more to PC gaming than Windows by now...
I'm really excited by the trailer and the progress that's been made. I think you guys are doing a great job of capturing the style and flavour of the Star Control games. Bright colours, clean and simple user interface, fun world design, I think this is shaping up to be a game Fred Ford and Paul Reiche III would be proud of
Just some feedback on the alien featured in the trailer: I liked the style and design of the alien except the appendages appear to have finger nails making it seem like a puppet reminiscent of *shudder* Star Control III. Change this small detail(to claws/scythes perhaps) and the design will be great. Also, the dialogue 'Your permission to exist has been denied' doesn't seem to 100% sense. Perhaps this could be re-worded somehow?
One last thing: I've signed up to several forums and liked the Star Control page on FaceBook, but always seem to miss out on updates. Which is the best way to stay informed for when the test melee game or developer tools are available for Founders to download?
Once again, awesome, awesome work
From what I know its basically going to be all new aliens and what not since they don't(?) have permission to actually use the characters from Star Control.
This looks like a fun game! I'm looking forward to reading reviews and watching let's play videos.
Anything related to Founders will most likely only be posted in the Founders forum as that is private.
It looks good, well visually to say at least. I usually prefer realistic graphics over cartooney style, but i have no issue with how this looks. Actually some games, which clearly have not as graphically capable engine under they hood as Nitrous is - Stellaris for example - could really use this kind of style.
Anyway, good work, keeping an eye on this now.

And check it from time to time (like everyday).
seriously? It's 2016. Have you noticed how much you can do with a controller? And Star Control isn't exactly grand strategy. It's perfect for consoles.
Thanks Island Dog
Thanks Hunam
I am very excited for this! Like so many here, I am a huge fan of Star Control 2, and to a lesser extent 1. while saddened by the not beibg able to use the original races, it is understandable, and as the idea that this and the originals are alternate realities, I can dig it.
Reboots are a mixed bag. on one hand, the old fans want to relive the glory days, and new fans can be off put by not knowing the lore. I am perfectly happy to have a gsme that is new but becomes a spiritual successor to Source material, namely Star Control 2.
When the funds allow, I will become a founder.
I've been waiting for another Star Control awhile!
I forgot I had downloaded the music sample you guys put up from Riku and just listened to it now. I won't lie, it gave me a small chub. That's a pretty amazing improvement over the original hyperspace music. Lots of nostalgia in that music and rhythm. *Almost* got me to pre-order on the spot just from that, but I gotta see more before I do that. I've seen the MoO reboot and approach it with trepidation based on the reviews. Not all reboots go as well as XCOM, but I have faith the soundtrack will be amazing
