Ok, I thought i read somewhere that if you trade for an option you cannot research a different option? But seem to be able to in current game.
I know I can't research an alt "option" once I research a different one.
Once you have a specialization, you cannot research the others in the group. If you've already got one currently going though, I believe it will finish even if you acquire a different specialization via trade halfway through.
Yeah, that is what I thought, but I traded for one, then 2 turns later was able to research another option/specialization.
I doubt that. Reproduce it, then post a bug report.
Oh i would love to confirm if this is true? i am sick of waiting for a specialization to finish when trading is waiting and open.
That's confirmed. Been that way for quite a while now. What you CANNOT do is stop researching the option. That is, if I'm researching option A, and buy option B partway through, I can continue to research A, so long as I DON'T even for a second switch research. Which means, don't go into the Tech tree and click around. As soon as you do, you can't go back to option A.
Which reminds me how much I've long wanted a "confirm change of research goal" dialog/second-button something. I've never really understood why the tech UI assumes that they only reason you'd ever be there is to change your research goal. This is a 4X game. Long-term thinking is a large share of my fun.
Greetings,
I agree with this idea. The tech tree needs to be available without needing to reset research. The current system can be very frustrating.

Good to know, thanks.
That's a lot of extra clicking. You can still browse the tech tree (even without triggering the situation I described), and hover over techs. Just DON'T CLICK on one. Yes, I know that precludes looking at the specializations, but for this one special case, it's more than worth the tradeoff of having to click a couple extra times every time I want to change techs.
Best case, I'd support "double click selects tech to research". Under no circumstances would I support any sort of a dialogue box, or other "must move mouse somewhere else to confirm" modality, which would include using the right mouse button for a pop up or the like. That's bad UX.
That would work for me. Maybe a full tech web view with details on select and a pair of Cancel and Accept buttons?
Their is a mod for this.
Are you referring to the Generalized Tech Tree mod? If so, it's found here, and I'm a satisfied user ...
Actually I was talking about viewing techs. https://forums.galciv3.com/477456
Mods are fine for folks who like messing with them, but my hopes are always for updates to the base game.
