I received an email titled Craig Oman (if I remember correctly). It was from a German domain (.de). I was suspicious, so I did a search and came up with the information in the link. The email was sent to at least several members of WinCustomize; PuterDudeJim, Paul (probably Jafo), probably DrJBHL and maybe a few others that I didn't recognize. The threat in the link is called JS/Redir according to scumware.org, and apparently is a virus that can cause a browser to go to unwanted sites. According to avgthreatlabs.com, "JS/Redir is a malicious software that once it is executed has the capability of replicating itself and infect other files and programs".
As with any email, if you don't recognize who it came from, do not open it. And even if you do recognize the person it came from get in touch with that person and ask if they sent you an email. I for one don't trust any emails, inbox spam or otherwise. If I don't know them...delete delete delete.
BTW: When I was a newbie (long time ago) I opened one and BAM! My laptop went bonkers.
I've been lucky so far (and cautious). Some phony ones that claim to be from PayPal, eBay and banks look pretty convincing graphically, but I look up the message source and do a search on the email address. I got one from "eBay" once that had some correct information about an auction I participated in, but I checked the address and determined that it was fake, and reported it to eBay.
