Right now when you use the Benevolent perk where all planets in your influence area flip, if it's a minor race's planet that had ships, then those ships become pirates. I'd like it if those ships simply disappeared or became yours, since the idea behind "benevolent" is that they flip because they like you.
Thematically that's a great idea. Realistically I think it would make a very strong trait too overpowered.
I don't think having them simply disappear is overpowered. Maybe whether they disappear or go pirate might be based on the ideology of the Minor.
Maybe Malevolent Minors' ships go pirate, Pragmatics simply demilitarize, and Benevolents decommission and send you the shekels as an administrative fee for joining up.
Agreed having the player get the ships would be too overpowered. They should just disappear though. . . otherwise they are just an annoyance that serves no purpose.
From what I recall, back in GalCiv 2, when a faction died, their B/P/M (or Good, Neutral, Evil as it was called) would decide what would happen to the ships. Good would have most of the ships go to like minded/alied factions. Neutral would see some go to allies/like minded factions while others go pirate. And Evil would ALL go pirate, regardless.
Personally I'd like to see that mechanic come back in some form rather than all ships go pirate when a faction goes bye-bye.
The precedent in historical terms is they should join your race. Austrian military assets were obviously absorbed by Germany when the country was annexed in WW2..... but they did not maintain active Austrian military forces as such.....
So it kind of translates to Galciv in this way..... all the minor races ships become cargo pods on the map that you have to claim, and then the ships become yours.
They should fight you tooth and nail, with extra accuracy bonuses due to being hyped up rebels for the cause. Space Pirates are nothing compared to these desperately motivated crews! Go down in a blaze of glory!!
Well, that's what I would do.
